Everytime I've done it I just rent one from Shucks.

I have tried the one that you rent from Murry's not the right thing does not fit wrong bolt size. I just did a search and is it true the balancer should just pull off by hand. With out the use of a puller?

The stock balancer is just bolted onto the hub. I would think it should just come off. The hub, however, is pressed on. The threads for those bolts are the same as the stock head bolts and the head bolts are long enough as well. That's what I use.

Ya I don't need to pull the crank hub off I just want to remove the balancer so I can pull the cap and rotor off. If it is supposed to be a loose fit would a 3-jaw puller hurt the balancer?

I'd try a rubber mallet first, but I've never taken off the stock balancer.

Weged a peice of wood in there then and pull it off, if your just taking the balancer off it shouldnt be that hard. Spray a degreaser/lubricant on it too.

You shouldn't need a puller. I took mine off just fine without one. You just have to wiggle it a little and pull from different sides to loosen it up. When you first start pulling it off it feels like it is stuck on there hard, but once it's loosened it comes off quickly.
