Be sure to use GMPP guideplates only. And never use guideplates with SA rockers! Buff, what's the lift cutoff on SA? I would have thought it would have been RPM before lift. However I guess too much lift would push the valvestem beyond the strength of the roller "guide."

I found this blurb from comp cams
They come in a self aligning version which fits on the stock head without any additional parts but we recommend non-self aligning rockers for any cam over .550" lift or high output or high RPM engines. Non-self aligning rockers offer increased stability over the self aligning versions and require the installation of guideplates and hardened pushrods

just a note with most aftermarket rockers (that come with the polylock) especially NSA rockers to make sure the allen set screw is very tight, or to often check them. I've read quite a few stories about guys with Comp NSA rockers having problems with the set screw loosening up.

I thinking you are on the right track, if you plan ahead and stick to the plan you can save some dough.

Comp cams 1.6 roller tip magnums. They are not full rollers but TPIS did some tests and that was the only rocker they did not break. They are awsome in my book!
