Default 4.000" stroke??

OK don't beat on me for this because it is JUST a question.

Is it possible to put a 4.000" stroke crank into an LT1? Is there anyone that makes a 4.000" stroke crank for an SBC with a 1 pc seal?

Please answer this with respect NO FLAMING or down talk as it is JUST a question.

Thanks guys/gals,

Jeremy

yeah, its possible, with one little issue that may or may not come, but it is possible to break through the pan rail into the water jacket while clearancing for rods. and you're gonna have to do one hell of a lot of clearancing, and probably will require the special "long" stroker rods that are recommended 3.875 and above strokes. you're probably going to need a small base circle cam and all the junk that goes along with it. but yes it can and HAS been done before, its more popular with the impala croud than the fbodys.

Yea, i have never seen a 350 go over a 3.85 stroke o a 396, a motown can go 4 inches, it is available with 4 inch bore or 4.125.

Wouldn't it severly weaken a stock block? Especially with the power that follows, is it a good idea?

Well if you are going to go with such a throw you would want a 2 bolt main and splay it with all the race block prep work if you are serious.

you have to remove too much material from the block to accept the 4.000" stroke and for my experience you need the hard blok incase if you reach water jacket.......

then you will face con rod to cam clearance problem if you dont have the right con rod ..................

for my opinion the best bore to stroke ratio fore the bore of 4.000 - 4.060 should based on 3.750 or 3.875"

GOOD LUCK WEITH YOUR PROJECT

The cost is going to out weigh an benefits really fast with a project like that.

One of the most common Cranks for after market blocks. Definately want to 'Rock' the block like I have and will need all the matching parts. Not a budget build IMHO but very doable and matchs our 7,200 cut off well...not that I have thought about it much

The biggest problem is bores. there is no reliable way to get a good 4.125-4.185 bore in an LT1 block. I sure wish there was it would make life alot easier!

Ellis makes a good point about our low rev limit.

That said if cost becomes a factor and you have too choose between topend and bottom, the topend is a bigger limiter too power so don't let your quest for cubes hurt your ability to give it a proper topend.

The engine I was in the process of building before I decided to sell the car was a solid roller 408...4.030 bore with a 4.00" stroke. There were spots that were broken through, we just filled the block (which was in the plan anyway).

4" stroke will fit no problem. The chance of finding water is fair but can you can deal with it a couple of ways. 5.85 rods are your best bet from oliver. The tend to need the least amount of clearnce.

As for big bore LTx's is very hard to do with 327 castings.

It's goin to be alot of clearancing work..possible to do though.

Can you get a top-end that can supply that well?
