Default Lt1 timing chain

i am in the middle of CC306/LE2 Head/3600 stall upgrade water pump, injectors etc...

my timing chain seems to have some slack or play. how much of this is normal? and how many people have left the stock timing chain on a cam swap at 115K? results? and why the hell are the comp lt1 timing chains so expensive?

i plan to launch the car hard, so i dont want to have to go back or ruin what i have done... is the $500 timing chain a good investment?

thank you for any opinions...

Timing Chain should not have slop in it.

I would not pay 500 bones for a chain, I'd either use a stock timing set or go double roller/ewp.

On the Corvette Forum guys are having issues with the HD timing set.

I just swapped cams in my 94 Z with 160,k on it and although the chain believe it or not had hardly in slop in it I went ahead and changed it but... I bought mine from Napa and it even had the "GM" logo on it.

i have a cloyes adjustable one.. since youre doing an EWP, ditch the "lt1 chain" idea. they cost more cause theyre designed with the water pump drive in mind, so getting a normal SBC chain will work fine, and be way cheaper.

and like said, there shouldnt be slack.

I've got the LT4 chain, I think it's very stout and worth the $250.

I have a quick question. So can use a SB 350 timing chain in an LT1 as long as you have an EWP? Will any SB 350 chain fit?

Not just any SB 350 chain will work. You need the one for the later, roller cam-equipped 350. Early gears have a different bolt pattern. Even then you will need to clearance the inside of the timing cover. It's not a big deal but it needs to be done.

Do you have to do any mods to run the lt4 chain and sprockets.

I'm running a comp cams 3136 HI-TECH double roller timing set and I did not need to clearance anything.
