Forums are helpful IF you listen to GOOD advice listed in them. For example, folks said several times that you won't necessarily have water in your oil if the gasket is bad. Like I said in your thread, a simple $50 coolant check would have saved you a lot of time and grief.
Now that you think you know what the problem is, do you REALLY know if you have bad head gaskets or are you just guessing again? Again, not to be a jerk, but if you're following unc's advice, I'd get a second opinion. For example, your uncle is WRONG that the engine is absolutely toast if the head gaskets are bad. You can have a good shop replace your head gaskets in a couple of days for less than $1500, and that includes labor, resurfacing and parts. I think that's a lot cheaper than most decent used cars, and if you do it yourself, it's a lot less. Now if you've got a bunch of water in the pan, that's a different problem and the engine is probably beyond hope.
BTW, you AIN'T going to get a good NEW engine for $1000, and I wouldn't recommend getting a used one 'cause you're going to be looking at the same problems.
If you can get a rebuilt engine for around that price, that's a good deal and probably the better way to go, especially if the rest of your car is in good shape. Again, that's cheaper than a used car. But if I were you, I'd take a deep breath and call various shops and ask if they are good with LT1's and get a good opinion on what to do. For some reason, it's hard to get good work done on these engines.
IMO, no, anything you do to put a band aid on it will cause more problems. Like I said, if you don't have milky oil at this point, you can probably just have the head gasket replaced but if you keep pushing it you going to end up screwing up the bottom end = new engine.
C'mon you Texas guys, step up and help this guy out with shop recommendations!

Listen,
If you blew a headgasket, your car is going to run much differently then before. Its going to run choppy and its going to run hot.
If a car has a blown headgasket, its going to heat up rather fast, OK?
There should be a noticable difference in your running temps.
Does the car warm up faster then normal?
What is the temp going down the road after its warm?
Is there cloudy, white looking smoke coming from the exhaust?
LT1's have cooling problems in general. Even a good running LT1 is going to run 200+ degrees at stoplights on any given day if youre still on the stock fan settings.
You do know that simply switching your climate **** to A/C will initiate the high-speed fans to come on earlier, to compensate for the extra work the motor does to run the A/C pump.... this is a little trick to keep you engine running cooler, well that or a manaul fan switch.
If you want to sell the car thats fine, people buy and sell Fbodies everyday... thats life.
But don't sell the car because 'you think' something is wrong with it. Be sure.
It could be a headgasket, it could be a thermostat, but make sure so you know what youre dealing with, and so you can get the most out of your car.
A headgasket isn't the end of the world, but Fbodies are expensive to maintain.
If you can't afford to fix a headgasket, then you can't afford to modify and maintain the car.
No offense.
Good luck kid.

I just noticed the thread title.
It says "Rip In Peace Trans Am"
RIP = Rest In Peace
So you said, Rest In Peace In Peace Trans-Am
