Default Ok, the rear main?

Its leaking pretty badly and I wanted to change the rear main seal when I put my new converter in. Strangely I dont really know anything about the main seal is. Is this all I need and what is all involved in changing it? What causes them to leak in the first place??

Yep, it will pop out with a flat head and then you push the new CAREFULLY into place, they leak because they get old, the rubber will only hold up for so long. Even at times i have seen the seal rub a groove into the crank.

Thanks. Summit will take a bit to ship so would a place like O Reilly's have the right part or should I go to a Chevy dealer?

I just am seeing there's a lot of different seals to buy that will work and are anywhere from $.50 more to $10 more, does it really matter what I buy?

As mentioned, be very careful when pressing in the new seal. If you get it crooked, it will leak immediately. If I can find a write up, I will post it for you. Best of luck.

As far as a torque converter install are there any good write-ups? I suprisingly couldnt find any. Not only did I bust my wrist and my buddy sliced his finger open we made some pretty shitty progress. We took off the driveshaft, drained the tranny pan, removed the metal restrictor plate and only got off a couple of the main tranny bolts. Some are too high up to reach well and the transmission isnt sagging down to help out our cause.
