I think what Pepe was getting to was that the original poster drives his car too much for a SR. In other words if the application is a daily driver then a SR wouldnt be the first choice.

I'd like to run a mild solid roller but shaft mounts just aren't in my budget. will running just plain old comp pro mag rockers eliminate the benefits of running a solid? my old hydraulic only lasted 3,000 miles and I adjusted the valves 4 times (stupid comp Rs!) I don't have anything against adjusting valves haha. I want to run well into the 11s with stock heads and then see what I can do with a set of heads. trying spend money on a budget but smartly.
I'm not sure if those comps are adjustable, but you'll need an adjustable rocker to set the valve lash. I'm starting off hydraulic then when I get some more money be switching the whole top end over. I've just got to get used to the extra 200+ horsepower first.

im going a solid route for bracket racing next year. good valvetrains dont have to be adjusted hardly ever, depending upon how they are setup initially and played with.
SR is the way to go for anything more than daily driver

Well this winter I am swapping intakes (going from a welded/epoxied/ported LT4 intake to a sheetmetal) and swapping cams. My engine builder was throwing the idea at me to go to a solid, as he said that I would gain on average 15 to 20 HP all over the powerband, and then more in the uppers. My only concern is driving around here in North NJ, is the occasional stop and go traffic. I only put about 3K miles a year on the car. Now this thread has me thinkin.......

oh that, well yeah I guess I mean I'm no expert, just think a low mileage driven car would fair better with a HR. BUT that being said I don't drive mine that much either and run a SR, I drive to McDonald's and even the track, so I guess that would be cool. Especially after reading that he wants a racecar and would like to drive it to the track, SR for the win.

Now if this was an everyday driver to get you to work, may be a different story. I do drive mine to work every other day when the drag tires aren't flat lol.

yeah thats what sucks about et streets. had to get dad ET street radials cause he only drives his car once in a while, and it sucked for him to have to fill up the F'n tires everytime he wanted to pull it out of the garage.

I was just picking guys. I'm just so tired of the people who have never had a solid roller in their car talk about how much of a pain in the *** they are to maintain. I'm a big proponant of a solid roller setup if your building your car to go fast and now just put put around on the street. If your trying to build HP...its the way to go. If you want a car that you pay someone to build for you and never want to turn a wrench on it..stay away from them. I'm not saying they are hard to do but you have to want the benefits of a solid setup to put up with what I consider a small amount of maintenance.

I ran comp pro mags on my solid setup for about 5 years and went 10s all motor on them taking it to 7000 rpms. I upgraded to Jessel shaft mounts when I changed my head setup to lt4s.

My bad..was wondering why you would be saying that to me when you know I've been running a solid roller for so long.
