The overhangs are long on my car and ramps makes it easier to get under the front crossmember or axle to lift and end straight and level rather than one corner at a time.
I also tend to use a combination of things at once like leaving the ramps under the framerails or the jack under the crossmember even while the car is on jackstands. Few weeks ago a distant relative rocked his car off stands and some time later the meter reader found him after he was already gone.

chaulk the tires, jack it up, put jack stands in, set car on jack stands, and then put the jack under crossmember. Then shake the **** out of the car to make sure it aint going no where (after visual inspection of jack stands to make sure they look good)
The schools here teach you to jack it up then chaulk the tires so the car can "settle" when you are jacking it in the air... but i do not believe in that practice. Sounds like a way to have a car run off to me.
