Weird Noise from engine. Possibly lifters? Ok, so my car has been starting now just fine for almost a month but there is a weird ticking noise coming from inside engine it sounds like. It only happens after you have cranked it over or ran it for any length of time. The noise sounds like how the exhaust sounds as it cools but its not that because even if the engine doesn't start it will still make the noise.
I was thinking it was lifters bleeding down but after talking to a friend of mine I am not so sure about that..What could it possibly be? Mods list is in the sig.

Im not sure what happens when it gets up to temp. I havent driven the car yet, just let it idle on the jack stands. But the noise happens for a good few minutes after i shut the engine off or stop cranking it.
weird lol..today I decided to clean the motor..i've had a nasty top end misfire for awhile..no more ticking noises or misfire and the car pulls so much harder..all i did was clean my K&N filter and wash the motor o.O wtf?

Mine does the same thing, but it sounds to me like it is coming from the y-pipe. I guess it would not hurt to pull the valve covers off and give it a check. I have no clue. I never been one to diagnos by sound. I could not even try describe the sound.

I've never heard of an LT1 with piston slap. But I know for a fact its not piston slap due to the fact that it happens when the engine is OFF. There is nothing moving while its making this noise; atleast not that you can see externally. Its not the engine cooling down because so far I haven't ran it longer than 5 minutes because the cooling system isn't done nor is there a belt on the car so its running off the battery. The oil was changed and looked fine.
But yeah, like he said, it couldn't be hot oil because the engine hasn't run longer than 5 minutes at a time. A good majority of the time its just run long enough to maintain an idle (untuned cc306) or to see that any wiring work I did works.

not gm... ls1 piston slap. I have never heard any motor have piston slap like the LS1's....
And it wouldn't be that because like everyone else mentioned, it happens when the motor is shut off.
And i haven't a clue WTF could be making that noise if you don't even have to start the motor to get the noise....
