Default Where to get an LT5?

Where can I find an LT5? How much do they run for? I met some guy in a C4 Vette at a local scene. Said it was his first time racing it. He had just put in a new LT5. The thing was scary but sharp.

a little history, the lt5 is 4 cam 32 valve "super motor" that was available from 89-95 making 385-405 hp. available only in the ZR1,designed by Lotus/GM built by mercruiser. its the precurser to the now famous ZO6, you can sometimes find them on ebay they are nowhere worth the trouble or the money, they are bitch to maintain. I don't even know if they would drop right it in the only thing they have in common with an LT1 is the transmission and maybe the mounts, everything else is completely diff. it is much bulkier than a LT1 or LT4 not a very cost effective motor if you just had money to blow for no reason than I say go for it. My dad retired from Corvette 4 years ago So he was there during the hieght of the "king of the hill" era. price 10-15000 for a good crate version and probably 4-5000 for a good used one. more than you wanted to know I'm sure but hey you asked. ZR1 (LT5) INFO

Scoggin - Dickey used to list a Crate LT5 in their ads in GM High Tech Performance. Perhaps they still have them. I do remember they weren't for the faint of heart or wallet.... around 20+ thousand.

LT-5 ZR-1s are some bad-*** cars. The LT-5 itself is expensive as hell though, which is why you don't see many of them. THere's a guy around the boards that has a stroked 408 LT-5... that is one mean SOB.

You can actually get an LT5 from most engine reman places, Grooms, Jasper, etc. You 'll just have to suck up the core charge since it seems you don't have a core to give back. I know my wifes store, Advance Auto Parts has LT5's availiable from Grooms in Nashville. And believe it or not, The LT1 and LT4 are the same price. Around $1800 plus 300 for core, but if you turn in a LT1 for a 4, most of the employees don't know what they are doing and a core is a core. But if you deal with my wife, no chance in hell. She has casting #s memorized.

I use a guy named Aaron Scott located just north of myself to dyno and he specializes in the ZR1 and modifying them. His shop is absolutly spottless at all times and full of some of the most beautiful cars youve ever layed eyes on. His homepage( http://www.sgvette.com/ ) doesnt even begin to show how sweet his shop is or the quality of his work. Ive stopped by just to look at the cars but no one was home.
