It'll be exposed to more colder air, since it will be more distant from engine heat. But at the same time it will be exposed to more elements such as water and dirt. I'll say get that one, I really don't think it'll suck water in. I used to have a custom made CAI in my LT1, it would go all the way down to the splash piece, it would even fit very tight on the piece, I never had a problem driving it in the rain, but you will get a lot of people saying otherwise.

Yeah, you can make your own custom CAI... the k&n filters used those are universal and available at almost any auto parts store. I saw some k&n filters like those at Advance Auto.

I have that exact same intake and there is nothing wrong with it at all. People dog it cause its aluminum and not name brand. The only part on it that gets heat soaked is part of the first piece that comes off the MAF, and it doesnt get that hot. I would say get it. Just my 2 cents.

the lingenfelter intake goes into the fender as well, Plastic also so it wont conduct as much heat.

The K&N FIPK also goes into the fender well.

It is not as smooth a path for air, but in all honesty there will not be a noticable difference - or dyno difference for that matter either.

I run the FIPK(basically because I got it cheap from a forum), but heatsoak from a metal CAI is not a problem as long as the filter is in the fender well area. At WOT the air is moving through the CAI at insane speeds, nowhere near slow enough to get heated by the walls of the CAI.

I would just worry about making sure the IAT is well insulated from the metal tubing so that it doesnt get artificially raised temperature readings and lean out your A/F.

**Edit**Lol did anyone else catch the benefits? "Very cool air sucking sound"

Exactly, I had the K&N CAI kit, its much cleaner and uses plastic. I made the opening bigger down there so I could remove it with ease when working on the car.
