It helps to deflect the Air into the Heater Core.

Also you might want to get it as flush to the Fire Wall as possible so when you make the Panel it seals good.

I think the angle of my picture is a little misleading. I did get everything trimmed perfectly flush with the firewall. I think I may try putting some thin foam weatherstrip on the back of the plate to make sure its sealed well.

Thanks for all the help

BMR makes a bolt-on A/C delete panel:

I think the one I'm going to use is from Madman. I'm getting it from Speed Inc, and the pic on their website looks like the same pic as Madman's.

I didn't remove the whole box from the car, I just cut the evaporator core box out from under the hood. If you want to remove the whole thing, you must remove the whole dash to remove it.

Yea..just cut the face of it off, make a little passage way for the Blower Motor to blow into the Heater Core, make a Panel for it and you will be good.

The Panel I have it something I made from 1/16" thick Aluminum. I prefer mine rather than the BMR one there...I think it looks cleaner, more stock.

Sorry for bringing a thread back up from the dead. Will there be enough room to cut off the core with the motor in the car but with the heads off?

I did it like that, but the headers were still out of the car. It was kind of a pain working around stuff, but it's do-able. One thing I definitely recommend, is covering the engine (and as much of the engine compartment) as you can with a blanket or something. Half of the heater box is fiberglass, and I used a dremel with cut off wheels, which made a HUGE mess from fiberglass dust.

We used a BFH but it was equally messy.
