Default Broken heater box

I had a little mishap while pulling my engine, and now my heater box under the hood has a nice chunk missing. How big of a problem is this? Hopefully its just AC, which I'm deleting anyway.

I took a pic of the damage but I can't post it. If somebody wants to post it for me I can email the pic to them.

Thanks

shouldnt be a problem the AC is the part thats under the cowl of the car all the heat stuff in inside under the dash, some people cut that part off of the box when they delete the AC anyway.

If you have a hole in the box your going to have **** for heat in the car, I had the same problem.

Just get some heat tape/fiberglass/sheetmetal and patch it up.

Does anyone have an in-depth engineering explanation about how the heater works in these cars? the_merv cut his box out but sealed it up and it worked fine. Yet, you have a hole in the box and it doesn't work.

I actually just ran out and took a look at my heater box a little closer since i have mine laying on a shelf in my garage, the blower motor sucks air in and pushs it into the condensor compartment first so if theres a hole there it will leak air there and you might not have enough flow there to get heat, mine had a hole in there to but i never noticed a problem. after air passes through the condencer theres a blend door, with the blend door full cold it blocks off the heater core and no air pass's through there, with it full hot it opens the door and the air pass's through the heater core and back around another channel back into the main air ducts, its kinda hard to explain, I took some pics of it but even with pics with out seeing its I dont know how to explain it. so if your not going to cut the front off of the box you might want to patch it just so you can keep the full amount of air passing thought there, I was thinking the blend door opend a passage to eather or like most other cars this is a little diffrent.

Thanks for the pics. I am still up in the air about whether to keep my heat or throw it out. If I keep the heat I will cut the front of the box off.

Well I had to drop the new engine in yesterday so I could return the hoist to the rental shop today.

For now, only the long block is in the engine compartment. I did find some of the pieces of the housing that broke off, but I don't know if its all of them. What's the easiest way to patch this up with the limited space I have to work in? The fiberglass sheet and resin was a good idea, but I don't really want to mess with that stuff.

Thanks for all the help guys

Depending on the size of the hole, you could take some thin sheet metal and silicone the **** out of it.

I stopped by my workplace so I could post pics of the carnage. It's worse than I thought it was.

Oh dude, that's big. I would run a search for the_merv's mod. Probably would be about the same amount of work but you get to free up some room and get to keep the heat. I think all he did was have to reroute one hose or pipe. Been a while since I seen it.

I didn't re-route anything really, just cut the baffle out of the center so the Blower Motor could get the Air through the Heater Core, and got rid of the Vacumn Line.

How hard is it going to be for me to do that with the long block in the car?

Ok, I cut the a/c box off the other day. I want to keep my blend door and vents working, so I am keeping the vacuum line. Do I have to make something or cut anything else out to keep the blend? I'm going to get the plate to cover it in a couple days.
