What happened with you Taner? Did your clutch come apart also? I would like to hear the story. Like i said i am definitely having some steel plate welded in my floor board, in addition to a SFI approved bell housing next Year.

I will definitely buy one of the SFI rated LT1 bellhousing if they will just make the thing and stop dragging their feet
I posted about this very thing a couple weeks ago, but its one of those items you don't think you need until it's too late. I'm glad you still have your lower extremities Taner. Count me in on one of these items if McCloud will make it ?

You can count me in for one, even if it is a little on the pricey side. You cant put a price on safety. If god forbid this were to happen to me, I will just wish that I spent 10 grand on a blow prrof can to save a few of my digits, or possibly foot/feet.

Gentlemen,
I was at SEMA this past week, and brought this very matter up to McLeod. They mentioned that there is alot of interest, but feel that the market is not there to justify the 25,000 dollar tooling costs.

correct, it is all about $$$$$, but hey they are in business to make money, not go out of business. just to please owners of 25 - 30 LT1 T56 Street/strip cars is not financially the best business plan. I understand it is shitty but, business is business. which is why i mentioned if it cost a few more dollars than most bellhousings , would the folks here still be interested? actually i thought it was more than 25k in tooling costs/r&d, etc....

Well as the mileage goes up I notice that there are more and more lt1 high hp build-ups, so the demand is only going to go up. If they charge the right amount, 20-30 ppl could pay the tooling, then it's all profit from there.

I need a clutch this winter and would LOVE to have an SFI option for the bellhousing. The 'custom' T-56 F-Body Bellhousing blanket I got from Exotic Muscle didn't fit anyway, so I have just the stock housing. 417 RWHP on Mustang dyno isn't tooo scary, but making a 6600RPM 3-2 mishift could be......
I rarely visit this site - it's been long enough that my post count reset to zero. I found this thread only because I was searching for SFI options again. I'll try to remember to check this thread periodically, but if you get any takers on making some of these and need pre-orders, you can also PM me (JP95ZM6) at CZ28.com. I'd jump at $500 dollars right away. Nearing $1000 I'd have to think harder about which way to go. I think you could find some more takers on that site, too. I'll try to send some this way if you get something set up and just need committed buyers.
Thnaks for taking the initiative in trying to get someting going.

Regarding the above post:
I was researching alternatives for SFI conversion a year ago, and at that time I was advised that converting to pull style and SFI housing cost a couple of grand+. The previous post interests me - that modular housing is only about $500. So, the above modular kit, a hyd throwout, and a push style clutch are all that are required? Stock flywheel, trans, master/slave cyls are all OK? See note 5 in second link above - maybe trans front plate needed? What kind and how much? Anybody done this and know cost, not including clutch?
Thanks, guys.
UPDATE:
McLeod is asking for fast LT1 guys who want SFI bellhousings to post in this thread, on their forum. Pass the word.

I'm in. I'm using a blanket now just for my own saftey but a REAL certified shield is really needed!
Anyone with the clutch should really be interested. If you've ever seen a clutch explode you'd want a shield.

Those talking about using blankets, are they all custom? if so, who would make one? Never looked at blankets but thought they were more for autos in case a planetary fragged.

I just reposted in the McCloud forums for the LT1 SFI bellhousing. Guys, we really need to post on their site with some support for this project. It sounds like they are at least considering the investment cost if we can show an overwhelming need for the LT1 community. Tell every LT1 guy you now to post on their forum for this item. We may only get one chance at this, lets not allow it to slip away.

I no longer have a T56 but do have a very high hp manual trans car. I have a Lakewood bell plus a blanket.
Some people have no idea what a clutch explosion can do.
Taner is not just lucky to have his feet, he's lucky to be alive and that was just a clutch that came apart, not the flywheel...
I strongly recommend this to anyone making 450+ that plans to spend time at the strip.

It's not perfect, it's just better then nothing! It might help stop small stuff, but it no where near the protection of a real housing!
