Unhappy Cooling fans not working

I have a 97 ss, and the cooling fans wont come on when it gets up to temp. Ive been turning the a/c on, which will kick the fans on to keep it from overheating. I went through and checked all of my fuses and relays, and they all work. Could it be a temp sensor, and if so which one. I believe theres 2 on the car. Thanks for the help.

When I say up to temp I mean 210 if I dont turn the a/c on it would start to overheat. The only way the fans turn on is if I turn it to max ac.

I don't think the fans even think about turning on at 210? I could be wrong..

That's why I asked. If you have the stock tune the fans not coming on at 210 is perfectly normal. The stock settings do not engage the fans until 225 (first fan) and 234 (second fan).

The number one answer to most of these my fans are not turning on threads is that people are not aware the stock settings are so high.

So your saying that the needle on the temp gauge is supposed to go past the 210 mark and damn near overheat before the fans are going to kick on? Ive been to scared to let go any hotter than around 220 in fear of a melt down and ill flip on the a/c and steadily watch the temp drop until I get the car rolling again. That just doesnt sound right my friends ls1's never go a hair past 210. At 236 or whatever its almost in the red zone.

LT1's are hotter engines, period. They can handle the heat better than LS1's also.

I'm not saying that's the optimal thing to do. I (and most everyone else) think the stock setting is way too high. But that is the correct fan behavior unless you have a tune or manual fan switch (i.e. nothing is wrong or malfunctioning).

Have the PCM retuned to turn the fans on at a lower temp and add a 160 thermostat - my temps never exceed 180 now!
