Default New cam setup good?

Well I figured I would call comp cams and ask them what i should run with my application. This is what he suggested.

CCA-07-468-8
242int./248exh.
0.584int/.0.579exh (on stock arms) Im on 1.6rrs
113 duration

CCA-26918-16 springs

CCA-774-16 retainers.

Does this sound like a good combo? All my mods are in my sig. I plan on running a 100-125 shot next season too.

That too much cam for a 355 IMO. Why not just go with the xfi230/236 or something smaller? I dont remember who it was that had one on a 350-355, but I know he said it was too much cam for the amount of cubes. A friend has one on his 383 and he doesnt it like it much, but for an off the shelf cam he said it pulls pretty hard.

Did they seriously recommend that?

That is a horrible cam for an N/A 355 Lt1, and 100-125 is not nearly enough of a shot to warrant a "Nitrous Grind". You will just be losing N/A power for little to no benefit when you spray.

A cam in the 230 duration range(cc306, 230/236, 233/239, etc...) should work well in a 355 with spray. Get a cam that will work well N/A because with anything under 200hp of nitrous a nitrous grind would just slow you down. Besides its not always going to be on spray anyways.

The XFI grinds are intended for 1.6 rockers and the lift you quoted is with 1.6 rockers, if that truely was the 1.5 lift then with 1.6s the 918 would not have a chance of survival.

IMO the XFI gronds are NOT showing results in line with all the hype they are getting.

If emissions are a concern maybe some of the smaller ones are usable but that is about it and I would step up one spring from what Comp recommends.

Honestly though I think you need to look at a completely different cam and DO NOT trust Comp's cam recommendations. I am certain there are people there who know what they are doing but the average kid calling the 800 number is not going to talk to one of those people, you are going to get someone who has no automotive backround who is doing nothing but looking at a computer monitor and answering a phone. Don't believe me, call again get another person on the line and see what they recommend, it will be different and probably still poor.

As said for a baby shot like that do not consider your nitrous plan atall when choosing the cam.

Oh and the duration is out of line as well.

Comp 918s aren't so bad, granted Comp screwed up when they changed suppliers but the other side of this is people using them beyond the .600 lift spec..

Comp has a huge selection of lobes, the problem is getting them arranged right which is where they tend to fail.

The original springs were PAC's so you swapped out the same springs for the same springs.
