Blocking EGR Can I block off the pipe coming off the rear passenger header and the intake without throwing a code. The pipe is broke causing a major exhuast leak, and I would assume warm air going into the intake would hurt performance. So I figure the best thing to do is block it off. Oh and it is an OBD1 car.
Yes, it will throw a code once it sees the EGR isn't working. You might as well remove the EGR system unless you plan on fixing the header.

No, it won't throw a code as long as the egr solenoid remains plugged in. Just unhook the vacum hose that goes to the solenoid and leave the electrical plug in place. You can then remove and block the pipe and the egr valve. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain how this won't work, but my car has been running like that for almost a year without any codes.

I installed a set of block off plates for a guy. He had bought them from some store.....and I know I could of made a better looking piece with a cut off wheel and a grinder!
