Default LT1's and Rainy/Moist Weather?

Hey guys.. i have a couple of questions when it comes to my CAI and my Opti on my 96 LT1. It will remain under car cover or in the garage for most of the winter but it may be drivin in the rain or in some sort of percipitation. My questions are is it really bad to drive in the rain? Especailly where my CAI sits pretty low?? And will my opti get wet easily if its raining?? I know these are some basic questions but im just wondering before winter hits! THnx Guys

I know all the IDIOT kids on the internet will tell you a hint of rain in the air and the opti self destructs but reality is these things were built to be driven in all weather. I have driven both of my cars through a couple inches of water at high speeds without ever a water related problem.

I can't imagine the K&N kit having water problems. There is a kit for the b-bodies called tghe RAMIT which puts a scoop in the airdam, now that there are water problems with.

I Agree you can drive it in the rain BUT a B-body and and F-body have VERY different CAI systems.

Do NOT drive through any puddles higher then the bottom of your front turn lights. This may seem silly but I see people do it all the time(seattle area). Even with a stock air filter system at that level you have just dumped the Air filter in the water and with a After market CAI you have dumped the WHOLE filter in the water.

Useing that simple rule you should be fine. Do not use it and expect the pull the spark plugs to turn the Engine over again

It's fine to drive in the rain, especially with a vented opti like you have. People worry way too much about the opti. water ON it isn't gonna do ****, just as long as the opti doesn't get doused and get water INSIDE of it. The intake should not be a problem as long as you stay out of really deep puddles.

Agree, I have even washed the engine bay with a pressure washer (with the engine running) and not had a problem with the opti. It does have it shortcomings, but unless it is really old and brittle with a possible crack in it, there shouldn't be an issue....

Hey sweet, another Washington guy!
I think thats what I said. Then again pulling that little hill towards Yakima(my home town) in a rainy thundering Hail storm did not bother my car at all either

I have never lost an opti to water even while spraying it down with a hose

I drive my LT1 in the rain, in the snow and in ice storms. Drove it in a blizzard too when the roads were sort of clear. I didn't have any issues. Traction even really wasn't horrible in the snow with the M6. These are impressive cars, especially once you stop listening to the irrational panikers, and just drive aware of that fact its not a 4x4 truck, you'll be fine.

My Lt1 drives fine in the rain. I once went through a car wash with an undercariage wash that got the opti wet. The car drove like crap for about 20 minuites and was fine once the vented opti dried out.

Ok my motor threw a rod from water that was only up slightly over the curb. Sucked clean up the CAI . I had been through water on several occasions, but all it takes is it going in that one time.
