anybody running the comp XFI cam?? voodoo?
well, i think i'm going to be putting in a cam and have heard about this XFI cam. I have searched a little bit but people seem to still be confused about it, I was looking at the 280 XFI for my setup. are these cams as good as they sound or is there something better. I want a cam that has good mid and high end power with a good sounding lope. somebody also suggested the voodoo cams?? I'd sure appreciate anybodys help. -also what kind of gains would i see from one of these cams plus with upgraded valvetrain and roller rockers??

Rumor control has it that the Voodoo cams are flat tappet. Don't know for sure if there is anything to the rumor.
The XFI series is a decent cam. Better have lightweight intake valve parts if you want to rev it in the high 6000 range. Should work out good with the new design beehive springs.

I had a 280XFI in my vette I pulled it for a custom cam with about the same duration but a tighter LSA and much more lift.
It had a mellow idle, my new cam has a more agressive idle but it isn't cut on a 113 lsa like the 280 was.
For the money I'd skip the 280XFI and go custom.

I've got the 280XFI. 355 LT1 , ported stock heads and intake, 1.6 RR, longtube headers, 52mm TB, M6, and 4.10 gears. It has a good sound at idle and made 371 rwhp and 351 rwtq. It went 12.59 @112 w/ a 1.9 60'. I couldn't get a good launch and could probably make more power with a better tune. There may be better cam's out there depending on what you want to do with the car, but I'm happy with mine.

Is emissions a concern? that is pretty much the only reason I see to consider any of the XFI stuff and then the bigger stuff still does not apply there.
The lobes are wickedly aggressive like should probably use springs one step up from recommended, the LSA is rediculously wide for anything but emissions use and the results are not great. I know everyone and their brother is recommending them but that is just because they are the latest thing.

This past season I took my XFI-292 w/ Comp 918 beehives and steel retainers (396 stroker w/ AFRs) to 6540 RPM at the stripe. The shifts were completed just below 6500 RPM.
I'm changing to PAC-1518s w/ titanium retainers this season in hopes they will make a slight improvement. I already have everything (springs/retainers), just haven't had the time to get everything done. I also bought a mic for beehives to re-check the installed heigth.
