Default LT1 gears

i want to get new gears for my 94 formula. What gears should i go with 3.73's or 4.10's? I have a a4 i still want to be able to cruise on the highway fine. Do i have to get the shift points adjusted or will it be fine?

3:73's if you want to do any highway driving. you have to get your speedo recalibrated and shift points adjusted....

in my opinion, go with 3.42's. I put 3.23's in mine and is alright, wish I had gone just a hair bigger but not 3.73's. You do need the shift points and/or speedometer recalibrated. I really think 3.73's would be too much for highway driving from my experiences

it would also depend on how tall the tire your going with is..if its like a 275/60 the 3.73s might be good..

i aint sure of the total roll out on the stock z28 rim and tire though.

Stock tire is 245/50/16 which is like 26" or 26.5" overall diameter.
Just use the gear calculator to figure out what your cruise speeds would be with the diff gears and go from there

Along with the speedo calibration you need to raise your rev limiter a couple hundred rpm. With 4.10's you will probably hit it.Not to sure about 3.73.I had friend that went 4.10 and he would always hit the limiter on the 2-3 shift. My vote is 4.10's but than again i usaully sacrafice speed for driveability.I loved them even on the freeway in a a4.

I have 3:73's in my 97' SS and drive on the freeway with no problem I usually cruise at 70mph @ 2300rpm. I think it's great choice.

I would say 3.42 or 3.73 max on a A4 bone stock tire, I had a buddy go 4.10 on a M6 with a '97 LT-1 stock tire and rim and it sucked fuel, I have to say it would sh$# and get with the program but gas was a Mother F..... unless it will be track only then 4.10 or more. By the way do you have stock tire and rim? if not then use the caluator that "TA Envy" suggested, anyway chaning the gear WILL NEED A PROGAMMING to help the PCM understand what it is controling and the speedo read right, and driving style will effect the MPG also.

I working towards a DD street only car and went from 2.73 to 3.42's and I'm happy with the results. Your gearing choice should be based on what you expect out of your car DD, street racer or track only. The stock PCM settings, for a 1994 Z28 4L60e A4 with 2.73 rear had the rev limiter (fuel cutoff 2-6 gears) set to 5805 RPM and the normal 2>3 WOT shift point at 93 MPH. I am running stock 245-50-16's. After the 3.42 upgrade I hit the rev limiter near 77 MPH in 2nd. If you go 3.42, 3.73 or 4.10's with stock tranny & tires you will need to reprogram to get your speedo and odometer in line, and lower the shift point tables to avoid backfiring, head jerking and no 2>3 upshift at WOT. I found this url helpfull, you can skip the transmission pressure and offset sections.. http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/showthread.php?t=498673.

GO 3.73 AT LEAST. it is not worth the work to do any smaller, but if you plan on racing on a prepped track and or sticky tires the stock 10 bolt probbably won't last long, you may want to consider a 12 bolt. check out the rear end forum section too.

I went from 2.73's to 3.42's and I could really notice a difference, not as much as I had hoped for. I spin around 2000 at 60mph. If I was to do it again, i would go with 3.73's as the others said. Just depends on how much highway you drive daily in my opinion.

3.73s are the popular choice for auto cars, couple them with a larger stall and you have a really fun car
