Default New clutch installed, now I have a VERY LOUD whinning noise

I just got my car back from the shop after getting a clutch installed. I dropped it off with no whine and when I pick it up the mechanic said there is now a whining noise he thinks is from the alternator. So I replace the alternator and serpentine belt and the noise is still there. The noise is coming from the serpentine belt area like the power steering pulley/alternator/belt tensioner area. I am not sure what this LOUD whine is coming from. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Would my mechanic have removed the idler pulley or done something to it in order to get to the clutch. By the way it gets louder as you rev it up. He also thought it was the smog pump if it wasnt the alternator. What do you think?

no you dont it might have been a coincident that it happened at the same time. the air pump is electric so its speed is not relative to the engine rpm. when my idler pulley went it was more of a chirping sound. if you turn the ac off does it go away? if so the ac compressor is locked up or the bearings in it took a ****. hope this helps.

the only thing I could think of that would make him mess around on the front of the engine is if he was taking off the flywheel and put something on the front of the crank to keep it from turning.

I took the belt off to see if the noise is still there and the noise went away! So what do you think the groan/whine is after that being said?

could be anything from bein low on power steering fluid or bad pump, to having the alternator making noise when under a load. an idler pully usually squeeks.

My mechanic just came over and diagnosed it to be a bad power steering pump so tomorrow were gonna go buy one from the junk yard. Do you guys think he is right. A bolt on the power steering even came out from all the whining it was doing he said.

ya that sounds good. i would make sure that you find the leak so it doesnt happen again. it most likely starved itself of fluid.

Turns out it was the AC compressor. So we just disconnected it. Kinda stinks cuz I got no cold AC but its almost winter and the weather is coolin down so it will be fine for a while. Thanks for everyones input.
