Default LT1 Turbo Camshaft

Hi everyone,
I am relatively new to forced induction and I need a CUSTOM CAM to compliment my setup. I decided I would give it a shot this winter and see what I could build for a custom turbo setup. The specs on my motor and setup are as follows

LT1 Iron block 383 stroker
forged pistons, rods, crank
4 bolt splayed studded bottome end
AFR 210 cylinder heads
Lt4 Edlebrock intake manifold
1.6 ratio roller rocker arms
comp chromoly pushrods
Compression is around 8.5:1
65lb/hr injectors
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Car weighs roughly 3400lbs
Car is a 6-speed transmission with 4.11 gears possibly going back to 3.73's

Turbo is a Garett GT45
Shorty turbo headers and 2.5" hot piping into turbo
4" downpipe in to a chambered muffler dumped before axle

A sponsor who custom grinds cams offered me this custom cam as an option
.536/.528 224/218@.050 on a 114LSA.

please let me know what you think or if you have an opinion on another cam option please let me know..... thanks, Jason

Seems a little small for that combo.

Im runing a 234/234 .577/.576 on a 114LSA with a 355 lt1, unported trick flow heads and 8.4:1 compression.

You'll want a numerically lower gear than a 3.73, the stock 3.42's work well on turbo cars.

and don't waste your money on the edelbrock intake...

I am in the process of doing the same set up as you, except Iam doing twins, But anyway I am looking for a nice turbo cam also and I found one for sale and camshaft was ground to specifications set by Jose at forcedinductions .specs are Gross valve lift: Intake: .510 Exhaust: .510
Duration @ .050 Intake: 230 Exhaust: 230
Lobe Life Intake: .3400 Exhaust: .3400
Lobe Seperation 114*
This cam is designed to make HUGE POWER with a TURBOCHARGED LT1!! This is part of my 1150HP TURBO SETUP!!

So I would also like to know what would be the best.. thanks

He will need this intake since its the only LT4 production intake available... needs to match his LT4 AF210's. Its tough finding a used GM LT4 manifold.

That looks like a grind cam motion would recommend. For some reason, they always seem to recommend very low lift cams. If you going to go with low duration, I would increase the lift to maximize the power output.

I think Jim fro Speedinc did testing on various cams and the power output was similar between the different cams, but street manners varied (driveability). Hopefully he'll chime in about this.

Seems like you can make power with any cam and a turbo

The cam I listed above is a cam motion cam, I love it. Chops a little at idle, but driveability is not bad at all, and im certian the small driveability problems i do have are because of my 160lb injectors.

I don't think you can go wrong with cam motion

If you go with a 218 from comp cam, get the XFI lobe on page 15 that way you can get more lift (.570" w/1.6R).

You don't need a huge cam to make power with a turbo. The fastest t-56 lt1 with a 3680lb raceweight trapped over 156 in the 1/4 with a 218/218 .544 cam.

A local here was running a 383 turbo setup with a custom comp 230/236 .544/.555 114LSA made close to 600 at wheels.

max flow of your heads at X RPM determine what lift you should shoot for. If your max flow is say at 500 lift, You will actually make less power/tq with a cam with 600 due to turbulence, swirl ect. We have done this even on NA motors, Installed a smaller cam and made more power, Also with a small duration cam you will make your power a little quicker, You need to decide how much % your car will be for the street and track. If mainly a street car, probably a smaller cam would be better for stoplight to stoplight runs..Its all mathematics and the parts you are using for the build..
