Default quick nitrous question

i planned on getting an ignition box with a window switch to use with nitrous because ive heard that if you miss a gear and gun the gas, the nitrous and fuel can keep spraying even when the computer shuts down the injectors causing the motor to keep reving. with the window switch, it shuts down the solinoids at a certain rpm to keep this from happening.

my question is that would a simple ignition based rev limiter accomplish the same thing. if the spark was shut down at 5800, there is no way the nitrous could keep pushing it, even with your foot to the floor, right?

What you want is the HyFire VI, Digital, 685 box. I has a window switch, A normal rev limiter a built in 12V activated timing retard, 2 step, and some boost timing retard if you need. It is what i run and a lot if the lt1 guys do to. It somewhere around $241 and your going to need the Lt1 wire harness adapter for a easy install. I love mine. Nitro dave i believe sells them just got to call him. For the money your not going to find a better box, plus its digital so you don't have to purchase pills to make setting changes witch can get expensive.

yes..the 685 box is nice. We used our first one recently on a customers car which had a system from the awesome guys at Nitro Dave's. I just picked a box up for my own LT1 car.

They are $242 from us with free shipping ( lower 48 states )

so you can install this box on a LT1 and it will automatically retard the timing or it has to be adjusted?

A simple ignition rev limiter would probably protect the motor from nitrous and fuel-lean damage when in over-rev but it won't look or sound good. You'll have the spark shut down at the hypothetical 5800rpm but then the fuel and nitrous will still go into the motor and spit out the exhaust and backfire as if you had a Ferd Mustank.
And unlike a window switch, an ignition cut-off rev limiter would not be able to protect the motor from an early nitrous activation, (low rpm). So if you happen to have the nitrous armed and go WOT at 1000rpm then chances are the rods are going to find relief one way or the other.

Not to mention that if you were just using a rpm based rev limiter and the nitrous continued to spray what would happen to the exhaust once it filled up with nitrous and gas. When the engine slows down and the ignition starts to burn the fuel you could blow the muffler apart.

It would look impressive at night I must say.

I was spraying two stages and only had one stage hooked to the window switch. Leaving the line with both stages on killed the 10 bolt but when the motor free revved the second stage kept spraying and shoot some decent flames out of the exhaust when I let off on it. I had bullets dumped so no harm there. I just wish I could have seen the fire works.
