if your going only a short distance it would probly be ok, like a couple of miles. race cars dont use filters, but there only going a 1/4 mile and back. if its more than 10 miles or so round trip i wouldnt do it

My Grandfather is in to quick cars and he owned a 1999 regal gs. He bought new back in 99, point is he ran it with no air filter LOL for 100,000mi. No BS, drives it back and forth to and from florida every 6mo. car ran flawless the whole time. Now he has a 04 monte carlo ss, runs it the same way no filter. I don't recommend it, but he never has had a problem doing it. For your situation, do not do it for very long. Due to where the cold air induction pulls air you would most like suck something into the motor.

not a good idea but if it is a quick trip and no dusty roads and your maf still has the screen you should be ok
maybe put a panty hose over it or something but make sure it dont get sucked in

As stated you should be alright for a short time. Probably everybody with one has at one point checked the filter and found it laying on the bottom after falling off. Try lubing up the filter though. I had the same problem and a little grease makes the job so much easier.

if it's a cold air intake then you don't want to drive it in the water or hit any big puddles.

If you've ever looked into a air filter housing on a mid-90s car, you'll usually notice lots of junk in it. Bugs, dirt, plant parts. While the bugs and plant parts would just get incinerated, the dirt can/could cause a problem.
