Hey guys, been trying to decide weather I should go with the typical y-pipe to 3" catback or go true duals ???

Depending on your goals with the car would be the best way to look at it. Im not a big fan of dauls. I dont like the look from behind and they are loud as **** if you ever want to cruise. If your going to be in the hp range to fully use the flow of the true duals you might want to consider the 4"mufflex/y-pipe combo also. I know thats the route im going with mine.

Here's my take on the matter. If your car sees alot of street duty I wouldn't do dumped true duals in any form. It would take an abundant amount of work to make a full size muffler hang high enough to not have clearance issues and be quiet enough to drive daily. So that leaves you with either traditional Y pipe/catback setup or a set of custom bent over the axle duals. I have had (3) 4" mufflex combos and they all sounded good, but I was never able to have enough clearance to fix rattles and rubbing caused by the huge 4" I pipe and over axle pipe. A good Y pipe with an aqeduate merge and free flowing catback and cutout is actually a decent way to go, but the sound is never as good as true duals. Bassani sells a 2 1/2" true duals setup that goes over the axle that looks and sounds nice. That is what I am going to be running.

Sometimes hearing others mistakes and or accomplishments with their purchases can help you to make a more informed decision saving you money in the long run. I find that there are lots of people on this site that have valuable information to help make an informed decision. Making a decision without researching 1'st is stupid. You dont even have anything valuable to say on the topic he was asking about. Just a blanket bull crap statement on doing what makes you "happy".

Now onto the question from pro-built7. I personally went with the ORY and 3" catback. Clearance is generally better and from what Ive seen unless you are a very high horse power application you probably are not going to see much gain with the true dual set up.

There is another option also you could go y pipe to single 3" like I did. I tried a few cat-backs and didn't really like the tips being uneven and the weight, and I also didn't want to lose a bunch of ground clearence to ture d's. Here a couple pics of mine.

Ditto on the ground clearance, and I ran mine out the back under the axle. You need to listen to the people who actually have true duals instead of the people that know it all without ever having them on their car.
I'm running 3" true duals from collector to exhaust tip.
I did not lose lowend torque
I did not lose ground clearance
I can let my axle hang fine without dropping the exhaust
I have never once scraped any part of my exhaust besides the header collectors on speed bumps and my car is lowered ~1.2"
As far as the sound I daily drive mine fine, I'm running spiral flows run out the back and its not much louder inside the car than my hooker catback was. I will never go back to a catback again just because of the sound alone.

I went with true duals and they are a side exit just behind the doors...they are 3" stainless with an X pipe and Edelbrock SDT 304s...The sound is sick, but not too loud and there is no drone in the interior so long cruises are no problem...I have 4" minimum ground clearance and they seem to flow very well...Having said that I think a good Y pipe and cat back would do the job for most and there's always the 4" Mufflex stuff, too...

...but I love the sound of TDs...Did I pick up anything with them? I don't know..Unfortunately I made some other changes before I went to the track...

Here's a link to my older thread when the exhaust was dumped..I have no new pix of the side exit...For the side exit the pipes come out of both mufflers and actually do a bit of a 180 back towards the front of the car and then 90 out the sides...It doesn't seem to hurt flow any as I'm trapping over 121 mph...
