Never have had a hot cam, but the 503 we put in 2 other engines ran very well and had a nice sound to it. Depending on what you are wanting I'd recommend maybe a custom grind like my last car had...specs in the sig. Just depends what exactly you want to do with the car. I daily drove mine and it wasn't too bad.

If you are looking at off the shelf stuff my vote goes to the LPE grinds...The more popular is the 211/219 .533/.560 on a 112 and the 219/219 .560/.560 also on a 112...the 219/219 was designed to work with the Superram intake, though...

I ran the 211/219 in my 383 for years and was laughed at for going so small...But the damn thing ran a best of 11.76 @ 117 and was a dreat DD cam that passed emissions, too...

The Joe Overton spec'd Erson grind I have now will run with some of the solid rollers and the bigger HR grinds I've seen on here and its only a 226/234...Its a shame that Joe ain't around too much anymore...

If you are picking a cam for the lope then I can't help you...If you want to go fast with great drivability then the LPE is the way to go, imho...but the LPE grind doesn't have a bunch of lope...I would call it more of a slight choppy idle...like "hey, I think it sounds a like you've got a cam in there", but it works very well...

Even my Joe O. cam doesn't have the chop of my neighbor's CC503...Who need to be choppy when you ain't sticking around long enough for folks to hear it?

Here's a video to my cam after it was installed. Isn't a great quality video, but something I guess. Streetable and made great power. I'd suggest doing the whole valvetrain when you do the cam swap. http://s139.photobucket.com/albums/q...LT_HEADERS.flv

My bad guys, I didn't mean i was choosing a cam for the "lope" thats the last thing im worried about.
I just want the best street cam I can get, I'm not familiar with good Lt1 cams, but I know popular choices seem to be the cc503 and the lt4 hotcam.

Why are we still talking about the HOT cam??? That thing should be banned or something. There are sooo many better cams out there, especially in the last 5 years, that it shouldn't even be a topic of discussion anymore.

ABA383's experience is much like my own. I had the little Crane 210/224. It worked awesome and idled very smooth. I ran low 12's at 113-114 with it and many have been in the 11's. In fact, Frank B ran the little Crane for years and held the cam-only LT1 record at 11.5x at 116 mph or so with it.

Heres another vote with for not going to big with the cam. Same as Alans, mines a Joe O spec'd Erson cam. 222/226, in a stock shortblock. Iv'e heard good things about the 503, but no personal experience. And as mentioned, don't skimp on the rest of the valve train parts, buy quality stuff.

And Alan, if you ever decide to swap cams out, I'm calling dibs on your current one. I'd love to try that cam out in my future 355 build.

If it's between those two, definitely the 503 over the hotcam.

I disagree the hotcam is a great daily driveable streetable cam for those who dont know a ton about cams and i think its worth has been proven..its a good lil cam and its not ridiculous or anything..sure there are better cams out there but is it hella driveable and easy to get a hold of with the whole kit...not disagreeing that it isnt the best cam..but its a good bang for the price of the kit and for just a small cam

i like my hotcam. i wasnt looking for anything extreme. i wanted a cam that gave me a little more power, choppy idle, still could use stock heads, didnt have to rev super high to get full potential but still was "tame" on the streets. and the hotcam fit those criteria.

theres a lot of hotcam haters on this site. i noticed this after reading a million threads on this similar topic so pick one that will best suite your needs,

I have a hotcam in my 93 and it's great for the street and can run low 12s at the track.

Damn I'm more confused than when I started, Maybe If I list my goals and future setup plans you guys can help me better ok here goes:

First off like I said this car will be used for street/daily driver use.
I plan on/ have the following mods:

-K&N cold air intake
-hurst s/t billet plus
-4.10 rear end
-Long tube headers w/ True duals
-Zex 75-125 shot
-typical suspension upgrades (panhard, torq. arm, springs shocks etc)

Don't really plan on cracking the heads, but MAYBE in the future i'll do it to port them?

I know some mods are cam irrelevant, but just wanted to make things clear, hope you guys can help me out!! much appreciated.

You said your car is for street/daily driver use. WIth that said the cc503 is more than you need because smaller cams will have more torque and power down low which is what you are going to want plus a smaller cam will not have cam surge and will just be a little better for daily driving. The hot cam is alright but there are better cams out there. I would go with the Crane 227 if I was you. My second choice would be the LPE 211/219.

Check my thread out it should help you out alot:
