Default How Can I Tell If I Have A Bad Opti??????

What can I do to see if I have a bad opti on my car? Just bought that damn thing last year has less than 2,500 mi. on it some people are telling that my car has the symptoms of a bad opti. What it is doing is that if I rev it a couple of times it shuts off, or if I drive it hard it shuts off. Damn this piece of **** is pissing me off.

There are several things your car could do to lead you to believe your opti is going. The problem is that they are also signs that there might be something else going as well or instead such as a fouled out spark plug, burnt spark plug wire, bad coil ect. Try tracing down all the smaller/easier things first before you blame it on the opti. Check out all plugs, wires (including the coil wire), the coil, fuel filter, and anything else it might be. If all checks out good, but the car is still acting up, it could be the opti. Most last 50,000+ miles though, so unless it got wet somehow from powerwashing under the hood or a bad waterpump leaking on it, the opti should still be fine after only 2500 miles.

If there is a problem with the optical module within the Opti and you loose either the high or low resolution pulses you'll get a DTC and SES.

If the rotor screws get loose, typically it will be a high RPM miss and get worse.

The ICM and coil are easy items to swap-out, prior to taking the Opti out.
