Default Difficulty of LS1 to LT5 Swap?

I managed to find an LT5 being sold locally

The engine is complete, minus tranny and headers. I'm seriously thinking of putting it in my car. What kind of difficulty can I expect from pulling out my LS1 and putting in this LT5? For now let's not worry about prices. Would I need a new tranny, would the old radiator work with the new engine?

Thanks, any help you can offer would be great

How much horse is this motor. From what i have heard it is only around 400hp. But i could be wrong. So what is the purpose of putting this motor in.
I beleive you will need new computer, wire harness and trany. The lt5 is alot bigger than what you have. I dont know what type of headers you will need to go with. Keep us posted

will need new radiator, new tranny, new computer, harness, complete exhaust system, intake system, motor mounts(possibly k-member). thats just off the top of my head. all the accesories are located in different spots i believe but i could be wrong about that. check the Hybrids section as well, they could possibly inform you of what else you would need to complete the motor swap.

Just keep your LS1. If you want to drop something like that in a 4th gen, buy an engineless rolling chassis for $2k and do that. Its gonna be alot of money and fabrication.....and for no increase in hp (or hp potential) for that matter.

that would be a cool swap. the 93 up has 405 hp. designed by lotus and gm, 200lbs heavier than a lt1. so really its not worth the swap if u want it for power bc its easy to get a 400hp ls1. but i would think that the 4valve lt5 would be better it it was built up right for high rpm high speed runs. lingenfelter had like a 700hp N/a lt5 at one time if i remember correctly. ive never seen a lt5 in a fbody, so if u got the tim and $ go for it just for the curb appeal. youll be the only one pry

If you could do it it would certainly be a novelty. I would imagine there'll be some serious fitment issues in an F-body though. That engine is VERY large. The intake plenum is much taller than an LT1 or LS1 and overall the engine is about 3" wider than a SBC if I remember correctly. Its actually similar in size to a BBC. Even if you did get it in there somehow and manage to get it to run (remember thats an old engine management system running 16 injectors, secondaries, valet key, the whole bit), it still doesn't have much more potential than an LS1. Don't get me wrong, I love the LT5, but I think this sort of a project would be worthwhile only if you had a bunch of $$ to burn.

Why would you want to ditch the motor that GOD himself designed for a piece of ricer rip-off DOHC LTx crap from dare I say, the 90's. Damn thing should have had VTEC too.

I am just kidding, it appears the transplant would be major brain surgery to me including a lot of patience, creativity, time and especially money. I don't think I ever recall hearing of someone doing it.

The LT5 is a awesome engine! But you would be much better off doing the above!

I would keep the LS1 in the Camaro you have, and drop the LT5 into a different car, preferably something with a big Engine Bay..that Engine is big.
