Default misshift + black smoke??

so i'm messing around, and i downshift to 3rd, redline, then go to 4th and BOOM! car shakes crazy, i look in the rearview mirror nothing but black smoke, i can't even see the car behind me. i push the clutch in go to nuetral and coast a lil, put it in 4th and drive slow. it acted as if i went from 3rd to 2nd gear but i coulda sworn i went to 4th, so now i'm scared thinking i blew something, but the car drives fine, idles fine no more smoke, no leaks. what happened? even if i did the 3rd to 2nd misshift what caused all the smoke? and what to look for?

^ agree with the pushrod theory.. except you normally will have some noise still, or have a driveability issue.. but nonetheless that bent pushrods is probably the case.

Probably. But it isnt too hard. just pull the valve covers and take off the rockers then pull out the pushrods. If they are bent it will be visible.

My A4 freaked once on a WOT downshift and bounced and bam, crazy black smoke. No damage either... kinda strange, never done it since.

possible a bunch of gas got dumped in when redlined and then it backfired and poof all the burt gas goes out the exhaust. Thats the theory anyway.

not sure about a LT1 but most stock rev limiters cut fuel to limit the RPMs

but heres the thing i'm almost 100% sure i didn't go to 2nd, i've done that once in my life and not in this car, it was like i went to 4th and didn't put it in gear all the way and the shifter grinded and shook and the black smoke. also i'm leaking gas at the connector to the fuel filter from the feed line, very small drips, could this have thrown my fuel pressure off, relating to the black smoke?
