Default Help with Exhaust Band Clamps

My friend has just bought a 1995 Z28.
He is planning on getting an exhaust setup like mine -see sig.
My exhaust was put together using U-Bolts (look like crap).
Hope someone can lend their experience here (and I hope this makes sense).
As my headers (ceramic coated) ran at around three and one eighth inches OD diameter and the ORY (not slip on -my were slip on tho') runs at three inches OD diameter, would a three inch flat band hold these tightly together -one tube slightly larger than the other.
Also on the ORY, somewhat of the reverse.
The opposite header pipe (to complete the Y) slips inside the rest of the Y, So this means it has a larger OD to accept the three inch pipe, so here would a three inch stepped band clamp work here ?
Guess what i'm asking is, how much of a tolerance is there, do the connections have to be exact, or is there a little stretch in the clamps.
Thanks in advance guys.

Will a flat 3" band work with a 3 1/8" ish tube and has a 3" tube slip fit inside.

Look for 3in. lap-joint band clamps, that is what I used with my old Pacesetter setup, dont use a regular 3in. band clamp. The one diameter is 3in. and the other is I think 3 1/8" and they worked perfect.

yeah lap joints band clammps work for pieces that slip on to each other while butt joint band clamps are for two tubes that butt against each other

just a heads up, I just remembered they may not work for the connection of the LT's to the y-pipe because if I remember correctly the 02 sensors dont allow the clamp to fit on all the way but I could be wrong if I had my old car Id look for you. As for the connections that the y-pipe connects to its self and to the catback they are awesome.

Default Clamps

Those In The Pic Work Good And U Can Still Get The Stuff Back Apart Which Is The Point For The Clamps Lol! Every Time I Get A Car With Cheaap Clamps On There The People Before Me Tighten The Stuff So Hard That It Forms And U Cant Get It Apart! I Would Use Those In The Pic IF YOURS BUT TOGETHER OR NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS THAT SLIP

Good point!
He'll be getting a set like mine, so I'll check mine out in the morning.

Thanks again
