Default First Drive with LTs: Results

Finally got the chance to take the Z out with the new Headers. We have a problem. Under hard acceleration my exhaust is hitting the car somewhere. The collectors aren't hitting the floorpan, its somewhere else. Could my Y-pipe be hitting the Torque Arm? Has anyone else found an odd place it rubs?

Oh, and by the way the mid and top end picked up alot. Sounds real nice under normal driving conditions, but still quieter than my manifolds ever were.

yea, i noticed that my car actually got quieter whenever under normal driving, but when at WOT it really screamed. Most guys that use pacesetter headers experience a "hitting" of the collector on the floor board due to torque, i did not have this problem though whenever i got my LT's on my 96, me new SS has shorties so i wont have this issue. Just let it go over time, and then examine the underside of the car and try to view some rubbing or new scratch marks. I would guess the collector or one of the tubes hitting the fire wall.

I reshaped the Passenger Floor Pan where the Collector gets close. So I know its not hitting there. My y-pipe passes really super close to the arm that goes from the Tranny to the Rear End so it may be hitting there, but I really don't see why there would be side to side movement in that area. I'm gonna do some investigating over the next couple days.

I would say make sure the motor mounts are not weak before you go through the mess of making more clearance. I'm sure you have checked it out but just a thought. Good luck

transmission cross brace on the drivers side is a popular contact problem as well.
