Default Having 2nd thoughts>>

Well, I'm getting my car ready for the shoot out and am having second thoughts about my setup. I've got a BMR K member, Wolf 6 point chromoly cage, line lock, some weight reduction, and a set of 4.11's with spool to go in. I'm contemplating ditching the 4.11's and going with a Nitrous outlet plate setup. What would you guys do? I really would like to get a 10 second NA pass, but could run a lot faster on the dope. BTW the motor is built to take a nice shot, so I'm not worried about that... Need suggestions

If you are confident in your build then there's no reason why you shouldn't spray it. My question is why would you contemplate this? Do you know for sure if 4.11's would benefit your setup?

I shift the car at 67-6800 and cross the traps around 6-6100. It should pick the car up out of the hole and on the big end.... But with those gears nitrous is out of the question.

plan for the future of what you want the car to do...dont put 4.11 in it now and hope to spray it later and ahve to change gears again...dont do things 2 times even if it hurts you now...

I wouldnt do the gear change till you spray it. Figure out were it needs to be as far as gear ratio. just my opinion

ditto and very true, spray the car and see where she stands, then make your gear ratio decision.

What size of tire are you running??? 4.11's spraying it with a 28" tall tire should be ok shouldn't it?

I am running 4.10's in it now but plan on spraying down the road. When I do spray it I am going to step up to a 28" tall tire to compensate for me running out of gear on the top end.

If you step up to a 275/60R15 they are 28.1" tall and the 325/50R15 are 28.0 inches tall.

Either one of those would help you out and gain you a few hundred RPM on the top end.

Matt94Z, I'm running 4.10's and 325/50 DR's. See my times? This spring, I'm going with 26'' for n/a run time and see what happens. The 28's are hurting my n/a time. But it is definitely needed when spraying. All I can say is experiment. 4.11 w/a spool is awesome. Thats what I'll be going with when my stock 10 bolt takes a dump. I'm looking at Strange 12 bolt,4.11/spool...someday soon.

I've been told with 4.11's even with 28's that I would be above 7000 rpm's in the 1/4. Na with 4.11's should put me around 65-6600 with 26's, so with 28's lets say 6300. How many more RPM would a 200 shot add to the car? Need all the info I can get... Like everyone is saying I don't want to swap gears back and forth all the time. If I had a 9 inch instead of my 12 bolt it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but I'm not swapping rears...

Matt I am running 3.73 and going through the trapps at over 7k I Bumped up the to 28s but I know I will still be pushing it at the Shoot out. I might try and get a tighter converter but I am still pushing it. if I break a buck firth i will be on the 7,200 limiter with no way out

After the shoot out I won't be running much juice. I will run out the 28s and re-think the direction I want to go

What kind of times do you run NA? What rpm NA crossing the traps? And lastly how big a shot are you hitting it with?

She was running 10.4x@118 N/A and 10.0x@136 spinning past the tree on a 200 shot. THe juice streatched the converter to 5,600 and I lost anouther 3% in it at the line.

This was with the car at 3650-3720Lbs. I am trying like hell to get it down to 3350Lbs or so upping the jets but using a box to ramp the juice out of the hole.

Man I can't imagine my car going that quick. I've got an Edge 3400 with the anti balloon plate, so I don't think the shot should stretch mine that far. I'd love to see some low 10's at the shootout....

well i can speak to this first what i have always done is used a gear calculator, specifically the one on f-body.org. scroll down the page it is the 2nd last link from the bottom.

you can play with tire size and gear ratio. you are right, 26" tire and spray, forget about it. 28" tire and spray ok! i always based how fast - mph, on selecting a gear and/or tire size. i like to leave myself a couple of mph of room up top just in case i need it.

i ran a 4.11 gear for 5 years, and loved it! trap 148 @ 7100 rpm with 28" et drags.
hope that helps.

I would say it depends on what class you want to enter, and be competitive in.

Thanks man. I do have one question though. What should I allow for converter slippage? I may step up to 28's with the 3.73's anyway... BTW there's no way I could run 148 mph lol
