Default What stall to run

So ive got the 305 cam in a 350. Im wondering what stall to run in a 3750lb car (estimate) I have a4 3.23's and will upgrade to 3.73's in the near future. Since its a PITA to swap out the motor from what ive been told I figured while im down there might as well swap the converter.

For street use I would not go much over 3000, I had a 2800 vig in my 93 T/A when it was an auto.

If it is a DD, 2800 to 3200 rpm stall is perfect along w/ a 3.73 swap.

Why is that?? I've read a couple threads where people are running 3600+ stalls and dd their car. At first i was thinking 3200 but thought maybe i should go higher. Since im dd the car im probably goin to keep the 3.23's for a while, would a 2800-3200 still be good with the smaller gears?

All I'm gonna say is I have a 3200 Yank and I wish I went with the 3600. Car currently has 3:23's but will have 3:73's this spring.

If you are going to run a large stall then you need to factor in a tranny cooler as well. That cam starts picking up nicely at 2400 RPM so thats the minimum you want to run. If you get a loose converter for a dd it will build up substantial heat until it locks up, but you have to figure what kind of driving your dd is, is it stop and go or open road?
I tend to agree with a 2800-3000 for that cam at max.

Just went from a rather tight 3000 to a 3600 and am very happy. No track numbers yet, but daily driving is a lot more fun. I have a h/c car with a built tranny and tranny cooler and havent had any issues asside from jhitting a stall wall when changing gears. I should have that fixed soon, though.

If your going to put the 3.73s in, go with a 3600. If you think you might stick with the 3.23s, go with a 3200. Gears help tame the converter. Just don't buy a cheap converter. My Yank SS3600 with the 3.73s drives just fine for the street.

34-3600 is a great range and it will really wake that cam up. DDing would be just like a 28-3000 imo.

I do believe I have the same cam as you, the comp cams cc305 and have a 3400 stall edge converter....I daily drive it when I am home from college, it is driven all year around. I have the stock 3.23 gears in my 93 also and it is great, I would definitely either a 3400 or 3600 stall converter, nothing higher than the 3600.

I DD with a Yank 3600 and 3.73's and its too tame for my taste and drives pretty stock so I wouldnt hesistate if I were you to go with a Vig 3500 which is actually a 3800ish or a Yank SS3600 or SS4000.

The Yank "SS 3600", and a trans cooler of course.
