3:42s on 95 lt1
A friend just gave me some new 3:42's still in the box and was thinking about giving them to another buddy who could use them. Would they fit his A4 95 Formy? Are the ls and lt rear ends the same?

You need to find out which carrier he has and which carrier the gears were made for. I would imagine an A4 Formula would have a 3-series carrier but you need to verify that. Do you know what gears he has now? 2.73 or 3.23?

Look at this thread or do a search for axle codes.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...es#post4517026
GU1 : AXLE REAR, 2.41 RATIO
GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
Look on the driver side door for one of these codes. If it's a GU5, it' should be a 3-series.

Yea gears for series 3 carrier (3.23 and up) work on all 10-bolt rears to my knowledge. At least we'll see if they do heh Friend is putting 4.10s from a 99 S-10 on my old 10-bolt posi carrier.

not to be a dick, but if you dont know what all you need to do a gear swap/rearend overhaul then why would you attempt it? its not one of those parts you can just throw in and drive out... there is alot of measurement there. this is coming from a GM tech, i sure hope you have some help to walk you through it man...

i never said i was doing the work. Im only 22 and dont have enough experiance yet. A older tech who has done mainly tranny's and rear's for about 15 yrs. said if i had everthing he needed he would do it free to help my buddy out. Trust me i have seen it done and i would never attemt to something like that, at least not without an experienced supervisor there with me. i just want to make sure that when he gets started he dont have to wait for something that we forgot to get.

Well I just got 3.42s in my car from 3.23 and the little bit I drove it (bad rim, didn't want to thrash on it yet) I could tell. It's kinda like doing a small free-mod or underdrive pulley. It's nothing huge, but it's noticeable.
