I think he means. Come up with a plan, and checklist. Ultimate goals. Not wasting a couple hundred on items that will need to be replace to upgrade.

nothing better then setting out a plan of what you want for the car before anything else...
and avoid hp goals, focus on ETs (could be purely opinion but ive always gone by this)

I agree with the guys above in that you need to sit down and think about what you want to do with the car and then make a plan.
I started out listening to the Fbody masses and did what most others were doing at the time. Very few of those parts are still left on my car. Most were sold or given away and replaced with hardcore drag racing parts. The way my car is setup now is what I should have done in the first place. Alot of money and aggravation would have been saved.
Suggestions are fine but ultimately you will have to decide what the car is going to do and work toward that goal.
Don't be afraid to look to circle track, dirt modifieds, or even the tuner market for parts and ideas.
Make the car your own, not a clone.

Also do a search on types of bolt ons, so you do not waste your money, such as headders, go Long tubes,(10+ HP) shortys (3-5 HP) over stock manifolds, Air Foil,(1-3 HP if any) if you are looking to get every ounce of HP then OK, but we have performed Dyno test on these and other products.

Airfoil is proven, was proven WAY before the 4th gen. TPI engines proved this mod along time ago.
Up to 450 hp, nothing wrong with a set of MAC shorty headers and Y pipe. My car with a six speed made 380rwhp with a set with a 355 and a small cam(225-230) through a full SLP 2OTL.(6 speed) I had no ground clearance scraping brain damage either.
