I like the look and price on the Mahles, but can they handle a 200 to 225rwhp shot of nitrous?

They are not a "nitrous" piston but I think any piston can handle a 200hp nitrous hit. The tuneup will determine if the piston lives, (or dies).

thats a good deal.

with those pistons (5cc dish), a zero decked block, .039" fel pro head gaskets, and a 54 cc combustion chamber you get 11.69:1 compression
55cc = 11.53
56cc = 11.38
57cc = 11.23
58cc = 11.09

That is the best deal for rods and Mahle pistons I have ever seen. They are almost giving away the rods with the purchase of the Mahle piston kit.

It's actually cheaper than wholesale. Very interesting..

Karl, we talked once and I know you like the Mahle pistons. And damn that does look like a great deal. But if there is a piston better suited for nitrous, which would it be and a rough quess on price would be appreciated. Rick

Hey Rick, I wish I knew of a true nitrous piston, (shelf stock).

Any builders out there care to share what piston they use for a dedicated nitrous motor?

I'm resigned to just order a custom Ross piston if the motor will be a true big nitrous motor. Ross custom is not all too expensive, (~$750? if you order through Summit) Then $110+ for a good set of rings.

Thanks for your time Karl. That's not to bad. I'm leaning towards something like that and a set of Compstar rods.

Yeah Ross JE or Weisco all make a good nitrous piston. The Mahle is a great piston especially for the money and as stated if detonation is kept away they can handle a nice squeeze. Tune is key even with a nitrous piston as they will blow too!

A friend of mine has been looking for something similar for his 355 build, but we can't find many places that carry pistons for Lt1s. Where is the place to buy JE, Mahle, and Weisco pistons for a 355? Thanks.

Racers outlet on ebay sells wisecos for about the best price you can find, AND they come with rings.

if the hypereutectics are so bad then why can the stock engine handle a 150 shot thrown at it multiple times throughout its life

Because LT1 specific pistons are metric. No reason why you can't run an SAE piston in one so long as the bore is correct.

In a stock motor you throw what you want at it until it goes knowing that you are going to replace it with better eventually anyways. WHY spend that kind of money on a motor to chance? The higher silicone content in them does not allow for the volumetric pressures associated with nitrous. Too big a hit and they will grenade!
