Default Weird overheating problem

For the last month or so my car has been overheating, but it only happens below like 45-50 mph. It has a NEW thermostat, although it is a 185, and yes I know to order a 160. Just need the money. Anywho, the other weird thing is the oil pressure is jumping around at idle quite a bit. It will fluctuate anywhere from 4-6 psi at any given time. So could this be a head gasket, or would flushing/reevewrse flushing the radiator help solve my problem?

Did you get all the air out of the system??
Also did you check the fans to make sure they are comming on?

Let the car run, stand out side the car you should here them come on. If not put your hand in front of the fans you should fill the air.

It is normal for the temps on the gauge to go up to the middle or past middle of the gauge before the fans kick on. The middle of the gauge is in the range of 210º - 220º. With factory programming, the PCM will command low speed fans (or primary fan) "ON" at 226º and "OFF" at 221º and high speed fans (or secondary fan) "ON" at 235º and "OFF" at 230º. The fans should come on before it gets to any part of the red zone.

I found this here:

Yes I have taken the plastic piece off, but am going to put it back on. I did it to clean some **** off the radiator the other day. But it runs the same with or without that piece on.
onephatz28-I never had problem with overheating when I was on the minland. Car had a 160 t-stat in it then and never ran more than 170ish in connecticut. But this happened about 2 weeks after I picked it up from the shipping company here in hawai'i. Pls you cannot here the fans if you tried to. It is too lound uner the hood.

The 1st thing you need to do is find out if the fans are coming on, let the car run and put your hand in front of the fans and see if you can fill the air. Be careful!!
If they come on then.....

If you can, get the 160* hypertech t-stat. The LT1's like the lower t-stat temp.
Also is there a big difference in climate from were you lived in Connecticut? I would think it is hotter and more humid in Hawaii, and LT1's hate hot weather. I just think with you going to a 185 t-stat and moving to a hotter place may have a lot to do with it. I could be wrong.

When my car did this it was a bad oil sending unit. I put a new one in and it was fine. Check that out if you can

my fans dont come on until almost 3/4 then itll go back down. this is idling in traffic too.

hawaii is almost like here, so you are just experiencing the hot weather attitude of the cooling system.

Ya, I would run the heater on high in traffic, that help a little. My car ran hot all the time, until I did the t-stat and SLP mod.

ok, the 185 was a quick fix thing since I needed the car running. It ran just fine for the first couple weeks I had it out here. And yes the weather is alot different than connecticut. The 160 and a manual fan switch are the things I am going to try. Just to wait til next weekend to order them.

Yeah, there is a tsb (pi) on the f-bodies for causing an overheating problem while driving after you remove the plastic spoiler under the car, just put it back on and see if there is still an issue.
