Smile Collant Cross over tube in back of heads

Hey guys I was going to go ahead and do the throttle body coolant by pass when I put the top end together and noticed the coolant cross over tube in the back of the heads. IS this a vital part or can I just take it out and plug up the holes? I noticed the holes are threaded, I was just thinking about putting a bolt in there with some tephelon (sp?) tape. But is that cross over tube vital for equal coolant flow between heads?

(1995 Firebird Formula BTW)

Must keep! You can buy new GM seals for the crossover, I've even cleaned up my old seals and use a little rtv and not had a problem. If I were you I wouldn't put anything on the bolts seeing that they are bango bolts.

I believe in the whole "teach a man to fish" philosophy therefore I believe someone should explain what it is there for.

The LT1 reverse flow cooling means the heads get the coolant before the waterjacket surrounding the cylinders. Water enters the block through a maybe 1" hole at the pump and immediately is pushed up into the heads and then as it goes through the heads is spread down through the block waterjacket. Any air or steam in the system would naturally float and collect in the high spots at the heads. This would result in those areas not getting water flow and overheating. The pipe is an escape for all that.
