what kind of bottom end are they using? If it's an Eagle, its a pretty good deal. As a 17 year old myself, i would look around for some stuff because you can definitely get it cheaper and have the shop put it together. Make sure you get the intake ported to match. You should be able to make some serious power (400+) with this setup. Just make sure you take in to account the other stuff to go along with the motor (tune, injectors, supporting mods, etc.).

Get a brand of what parts they are using....I persoanlly wouldnt waste my money on eagle. Callies compstar, and Skat are some of the higher quality, lower priced components. If I was you and doing a budget build, id do a 355ci engine. Get your stock crank balanced, with compstar H beam forged rods and a good forged piston.

$3000 is NOT going to get you a worthwhile setup. If that is your budget it would be far better spent getting good heads and maybe just putting fresh bearings in the shortblock.
Eagle has a good reputation but has dimensional issues, point being reputation does not mean a whole lot in some cases. Scat is better but still cheap.
A LOT of supporting mods needed before you go into an engine too, thousands of dollars worth.
If I had the car I do now when I was 17yo I would be dead by now.

+1 for head cam install if the engine is running well.
However, if you're short on cash, my recommendation is to wait until you have about twice what you plan on spending for the OH BUY the ways and a buffer in case you break something. Lots of cheap project cars in the classifieds started as a decent runner that someone started to modify without enough cashflow to see the project to completion.

A good port port job on stock heads plus cam and valvetrain, gaskets and all will probably be close to $3000. My choice is Advanced Induction.
If you reuse the stock crank you might be able to do a decent shortblock for $3000 but if you want to go to a stroker a decent setup will cost more than that. The good stroker rotating assemblies start at about $2000, a $1000 will not cover quality machining assembly, gaskets and such. Have to consider total costs, don't get sucked in by ads for $2500 shortblock or something, it will be mediocre at best parts, down and dirty machining and by the time you add gaskets and all you will still likely top $3000.

If its running strong and cash is low, don't even try to take it all apart right now. My car has 165k on it and still pulling strong. Just make sure to take care of it, and if its stock and you are looking to make some power, well you're going to need supporting mods anyway.
Is it stock, or do you have some things done to it??
