Default what would cause...

the car to mysteriously die at a stop light after coming off the freeway? BESIDES the opti. ICM? IAC? the car starts right up after it dies and the SES comes on.

Besides those obvious things, I can think of a few others. Vac leak, especially around/in the throttle body. IAC is always where I go first with those symptoms. I would pull the TB and completely clean it, clean the mating surface of the TB and upper intake. Put a new gasket in. Vac leak in the intake system. A small hole in the intake somewhere, especially after the MAF (if you have one), can cause similar issues.

Any other symptoms? Missfires, glowing headers, etc?

well i have a bad plug wire, and its having a flooding cold start problem, and backfires only in 3rd/4th gear at 3000 or 3500rpm only.

my TB was cleaned/ported not too long ago by me. i dont have any hoses disconnected or hear of a vacuum leak. this just randomly started a couple weeks ago sporatically, and now is happening everytime i drive.

i have both MAF and SD and no tears or holes in the bellow after the MAF. i just cleaned the maf a couple days ago as well.

Fix that plug wire and take your TB off. Did you get pretty wild with the porting? Possibly a little too much in some areas and overtime it created a pinhole? That can cause problems. I would also try pulling your MAF sensor connection and seeing if the problem continues. I recommend you do this after the engine has heated up to full operating temperature.

So does it die anytime you are stopped? Also when you start it back up after it dies does it start up and idle perfect?

it idles perfect after i crank it back over.

i ported the TB about a year ago, so that wouldnt cause it. i did the porting the same way anyone would.

it doesnt miss or anything with that plug wire. and it still runs strong even with these problems.

the SES light used to come on when cruising in 6th on the freeway sometimes when letting off in 6th and getting back on the gas. but never thought anything big of it.

maybe it could be cause i extended the MAF wires and used butt conectors when i put my lid on.

but it does seem like when the SES comes on after it dies the problem goes away.

get some TB cleaner and spray around intake and TB to see if you can find a leak?

i need a scanner that is OBDI compliant and get this code out of the PCM.

Yeah if its sticking, like on a piece of carbon, then it wouldn't shut or open as it should. It could also just be slow, which would require a replacement.

Definitely worth a shot, remove the TB and clean the entire thing with some good carb cleaner. Soak the IAC chamber for a few minutes, then hose it out real good (air gun with a compressor is best but not a must), then soak it again.

Does your car have the OBDI style connector under the dash, or the OBDII? Sorry, I'm not real up on the model years and differences. If it has the OBDI, you won't need a scanner.

its OBDI and i cant "jump" the connector thats only a 93 thing unfortunately.

i need a cheap 20-40 scanner.

ok i cleaned the IAC and it still does it. BUT after it does it once and the PCM goes into idiot mode with the SES/fans on it wont do it again
