Dwayne, I read and I re-read and you are calling people shysters for recommending $80 billet timing gear sets which is just wrong and bad manners and you want someone to buy a certain $30 comp cams timing set.

And the question is, if he doesn't buy the $30 comp cams timing set will you call him an idiot tomorrow?

Going rear mount on the distributor?
Yes I'm going with a crank trigger and low profile crab cap distributer. I'm going to be turning this thing to 8000. So the ecm and opti are gone.

Karl

It was not the fact he recommended a $80 timing set that caused me to refer to the person in question as a shyster.

If I wanted someone to buy a specific $30 timing set I would have given a PN, I was just saying that there is no reason to spend a fortune.

While I respect your opinion on this, you have really taken a sour approach to disagreeing with people. You act like if people don't agree with you, that they are complete fools. You tell people that don't agree with you, that they are ***suming, and not in reality, and shysters etc. Grow up man.

this was the guys question he simply didnt want to spend the money on a stock set when their $200 plus when he can get a billet true double roller for half the price so....yes you can use a factory roller timing set if you have a 95 up timing chain cover and opti...

Well, my experiance is this:

When building my LE3 383, I purchased a new stock timing set.

After I got the parts for the vented opti conversion, I realized I could go with an
SBC double roller chain.....
Well I fitted the stocker set on, and it had a bit of play in it. Too much for me to be happy. So I ordered an $87 Cloyes double roller. Fits nice and tight with no play.

So I am happy.

AGAIN a stock set is NOT $200, not half that.

Cloyes sells an oversized crank gear to tighten a stock chain, I bought one from Karl for like $24 shipped when he was selling parts, think he stopped now though. It still sits on a shelf but I have it.

if you get a set form gm yes it is its 225....as for a local parts stores chain i wouldnt trust it if i had money in my bottom end i worked at a gm dealer and seen alot of local parts store chains break....the gm chain is a good piece but it is expensive...and if the stock chain is stretched why would you reuse it??

Are you actually quoting list prices you know there are countless places that will sell at WAY WAY under list.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....0&postcount=13
to give an idea.

You must be quite a newbie if you actually pay list. Dealership markup is routinely 100%+. Sometimes you can even find guys selling at cost+10%.

The LT4 ED set is over $200.

So you deliberately and knowingly quoted the most ridiculously high price you could come up with rather than a reasonable one in order to try and suit your argument?

for once that i can bring something here .....

I plan to put an EWP on my LT1 ( 95 )

i bought a cloyes true double roller t/c....installed the set put the cover on without gasket to verify clearance ( had some playdoo putty on the chain )
it was rubbing !!!! I grinded down the reinforcement bump ( in the cover) that is facing the cam gear ...I had to grind it to the point that it is flat with the rest ....and over this I had to put two gasket thick so i could obtain around .060 clearance ....so it is NOT a direct fit ....some work involved!

installed my dowel pin at .675 to compensate added thickness!

hope this helps out!
