Default Coil pack conversion kit

I was reading up on a coil pack conversion kit today, it looks really cool on the car! I was wondering if anyone here has used the Del-Teq CPC kit? If so was it worth it?

Looks like in the photos the OPTI is still on there but without any spark plug wires hanging off it. The other cool part is it seems to drop the wires down over the valve covers rather than running them along the block like the factory. Factory wires I read are a PITA to change, and for the money they want for the MSD you almost cant go wrong.

Pics now please. Also what do you do with the opti? Or the area the opti was in. Anyone else chime in on this? Also whats the pricing?

For every one person I have heard say "I haven't had a problem with my Delteq system", I have heard 5 more say they had constant issues getting it to work properly.

Theoretically, an LS1 coil pack system would be ideal over our opti junk, however I have yet to seen a proven reliable replacement that works with little trouble.

I have the Delteq. Mine is all straight from Delteq. I mounted the box by the ABS unit. My coils are on the Valve Cover. I think it is a great system. You have to keep the opti because it still uses the crank position sensor in it. You can just leave it alone (rotor and all in there) because it won't go anywhere if you are mostly stock. I can get a few pics for ya. I ran the wires over the top of the engine on the passenger side because it was a lot easier than getting them in the stock looms. I ran the driver's side down the front and up to each cylinder out of the factory loom. They all fit great and I have been impressed with how much smoother it runs.

I downloaded a few photos of the del-teq from the AutoTrend joint.

It wont let me attach the photos because they are too big but I found a few links.

Thats the only one I could find but they have hundreds of photo showing to how install the DIS-4 ignition from MSD along with the Del-Teq. Pretty fancy but I bet it cost an arm and a leg!

Thats the problem. If you still have to keep the opti, you're not really improving much. The opti is the problem.

What is the problem with the opti? I thought it was the oil leaks that killed them? Cant blame the Opti for an oil leak.

I read that taking the spark out of the opti keeps it from getting dirty inside and also takes the load of 8 spark plugs off just one coil. I also hear that the reason they vented the opti was due to the amount of gas and slag that gets made with a traditional cap and rotor where the spark has to jump a gap. But then again what the hell do I know. lol

The problem isn't really with the opti. The opti works fine and performs great as well (I am still running it on my 614 RWHP supercharged Z28 in my sig). The problem is that the opti is very suseptable to being damaged by water. The vented style helped this, but being placed under a water pump is about the worst place for it, as when the water pump goes out, it will pretty much take out the opti every time. Not to mention just power washing under the hood, or moisture in general can take them out. Thats the problem with them.

http://www.delteq.com/opti_pricing.htm

HOLLY CHIT, Opti-Direct System for 1993-1997 LT1/LT4 Camaro/Firebird (Coilpack mounted on Pass-Side Lower Radiator Shroud) from $785.00 to $694.73. Is this what you guys are paying for the Delteq systems?

Thanks for posting pics. But CALL911 is right. Its just the opti isn't as vulnerable to water as everyone thinks. Also it may not just be the opti itself, but maybe its placement underneath the god damn waterpump. Who puts that there? Seriously.
