Default ? about MAF

I know that after around 450 horsepower the MAF becomes restrictive and the only way to fix that problem is to remove it. Right know I am nowhere close to 450 HP but if I had plans in the future to surpass the 450 HP mark, would I be better of eliminating it now before I buy a CAI so that I have the intake with the long tubing?

Don't get rid of the MAF now. Yeh you might save like a hundred dollars now with the 93 CAI, but your setup might change later down the road. If you delete it, you have to get a tune and thats about $600. Just wait until you get up to 500 hp to worry about it. Besides, it's more crucial for forced induction.

Maybe 450rwhp not flywheel. Keep it till it becomes a "problem"

Chances are your tuner will charge more for a speed density tune. And if you go with speed density you will need a new tune with each change you do to the car in the future.

Other than tune for it, nothing. It came with a pigtail harness to hook-up to it.

Your making a big mistake if your wanting to get a z06 maf or delete it at your power level. It's bad enough you descreened your stock one.

The only reason I descreened it was because when I took the MAF apart to clean it the screen broke. The only reason I was curious about deleting it was because I dont want to have to buy a '93 CAI in the future if I can help it.

That's understandable about your MAF screen breaking off. But I still say keep the MAF. You'll benefit more with it unless you make lots of power with forced induction.

Where'd you get it from and how much was it? I heard with LT1 computers we max them out at lower hp levels too, have you run into that problem?

The ZO6 sensor maxes out the LT1 pcm's ability to understand it at about 360gps, after that fuel needs to be ramped up pretty much like speed density based on rpm and such.

For street driving this is still better than speed density though.

For what it is worth I have logs showing over 400gps one even over 420gps on a f-body MAF, it is descreened because I accidentally damaged the screen, it is NOT a good thing to do. Whether it hurts or not depends largely on the tract it is installed in. When I had a short cone mounted directly to the filter the inner cone was too close to the sensor and messed up readings. Running a y-pipe with dual cones now and it readings are more stable because the air has a straight uninterupted shot to the MAF. I still plan to get a screened MAF back in it's place.

It will get maxed out on the LT1 PCM, unless you know how to fix it, through tuning. The guy I'll be using, has fixed this problem. I know of a couple guys actually, that have fixed this problem, Moe Bailey being one of them, and Ed Wright being the other.

That he was. He had that blower for sale, not too long ago.
