Default 262 engine question

if some of you havent read some of my posts i bought a 94 formula A4. no engine or trans. buddy of mine called me up and had me come out and look at an 94 lt1 impala. well it was all there 70k miles but it said 262 on the fan shroud. looked exactly the same as an lt1 so my question is, is it the same block as an lt1 along with computer/harness/accessories. i need it all and hes given me a sweet deal on the impala. 700$. if it is wut would i need to do to convert everything to an f-body lt1 along with 4l60e

not the same block, the bores are much smaller on the l99, with only a 3inch stroke
might as well be a boat anchor if you want an lt1

LOTS of stuff off that motor is the same as an LT1, so they can be of some use. My LT1 wears the intake that came on my original L99, the oilpump drive is in a friend's 383 in a Camaro, fuel rail is the same as well as the timing covers oil pan etc.

The Impala got the LT1 standard as did the wagons(caprice and roadmaster), the Roadmasters and the Fleetwoods.

The L99 was only offered in the Caprice sedan. That might help you find a cheap LT1, 94-96 Roadmasters, Fleetwoods and wagons are not often realized as holding performance engines, I have bought a few junkyard LT1s from these cars and never paid more than $550 and that one included all accessories and the wiring harness.

Tranny is mostly the same, a Transgo kit goes a long ways towards fixing the few differences.

In no way worth $700.
The b-body wiring is different than f-body, the pcm is the same as well as the s3ensors but the b-body pcm is behind the drivers side headlight.

just don't race them.

The little motor practically lugs in the b-bodies so it was only rated like 2mpg higher.

Yea, in no way is the motor worth $700. Hell, my friend said "I found an LT1 for $100" and then he told me about it and it was a 4.3 L99. $700 with a tranny though, that might be a different story. And it'd at least get your car running, and when you find, or build, a real LT1, then you'll already have everything set. You'd just want to get a tune on it RIGHT away to account for the CID and cam differences.

I almost got one from a junkyard until i found out that the 4300 on the back side of the block actualy means that its a 4.3L I had no clue the mini lt1 ever existed.

The dealer that sold my car new had no idea it ever existed. I brought it there once for a AIR TSB. I was the second owner having bought it at 50K and at this point it had maybe 60K on it. The service advisor argued with me for like 10 minutes swearing someone had put an LT1 in the car when since the VIN was W and the core support had a 4.3L sticker it had to have come with a V6. Eventually got him to talk to someone in the shop who looked it up in the service manual.

LOL Cap, that's a good story. Shouldn't the damn engine catalyst even SAY it's a V8?
