Default Oil Grade and Brand

What viscosity of oil are you guys running? Right now I'm running 10w30 and my oil pressure when cruising and WOT is less than what I would like. I was just wondering what would be thicker and safe for me to run because I would like to get more than 40 lbs. of pressure when its hot.

I remember all the LTX in C4 corvette use Mobil 1 15w50 if I'm not mistaken. I used this viscosity also in the warmer months when my car was still a DD. Now since it's only a track car I 've been using 10w30 MObil 1 or Royal Purple. Hope this help.

See I was thinking 15w50 for the summer and 10w40 or 5w40 in the winter. IDK yet though. My dad has an Lt1 94 Vette and the factory fill sticker says 5w30 Mobil 1.

Based on some used oil analysis, German Castrol is supposedly a great oil in LT1's.

I always use penz-url (penzoil) 10W30 in mine and haven't had any problems yet... You're oil pressure will change throughout your rpms, I say why not just stick to what works and is recommended..

I know it changes, but when i used to run conventional, it ran 55-60 lbs at WOT. Is conventional a lot thicker or something?

Autozone is running a special on Castrol Syntec and Mobil 1 filters through March, 5th. You could get 5 quarts of German Castrol and a Mobil 1 filter for 25.99. That's a great deal.

I've was using Mobil 1 5W-30 for about 3 years. I recently switched to Royal Purple when I passed the 100k mile mark.

The German Castrol will say Made In Germany on the back of the bottle. It will also say something like European Formula on the front of the bottle. I think the most important thing is that it says Made In Germany on the back. It's supposedly a Group IV full synthetic and is better than their American made 0W-30. The German Castrol is only available in 0W-30. I would run it year round and not worry about it. That's what I'm planning to run in my car whenever it's driveable. I run it in my Jeep. Check out bobistheoilguy.com. Those guys love the German Castrol. It's also supposedly closer to a 40 weight than a 30 weight. Another pretty good oil is Mobil 1 0W-40. I'm running that in my Jeep right now. But I haven't heard of any oil analysis done on that oil in the LT1.

I was running Royal Purple 20w-50 and I just went to Mobile 1 15w-50 on my last change. Then again, my motor is setup real loose so it needs a heavier oil. And I'm in south Texas so it rarely gets below 40 here.

Well, damn. I just went to Oreillys a week or two ago and it cost me $36 for 6 quarts of 10w-30 Castrol GTX and an oil filter.

Just because it's getting less oil pressure doesn't always mean it's worse, could simply mean the oil is going through the engine easier so it doesn't require as much pressure for it to go all the way through.
