Exclamation 97 SS No-Start condition

Hey guys, I have a 97SS that has been giving me ignition trouble. It started as a stumble then a complete kill. I just put a new opti and a coil in and now it just turns over. I can hear the fuel pump and smell gas after she truns over. Anyone else have this problem before? I'm leaning toward the Ignition control module but don't want to spend the money to find out it's no the problem.

just take out a plug, plug it back into the wire, and lay it so that the tip of it is on a good ground. Turn the car over and have someone watch for spark...

So if no-spark it could be the ICM? Have to try it tomorrow, thanks!

It looked like it could only line up with one of the holes on the back of the opti. Am I right? I put a new ignition control module in and still no spark. I've done all the troubleshooting as per the Haynes manual and still nothing. Anyone have any other troubleshooting guides?

cam/crank sensor is bad= no RPM signal to PCM to fire plugs or control injector pulse..

or you have the crank/cam timing off somehow....

I'm pretty positive I put it all back togther right. I never moved the crank while pulling everything apart and marked the old dist. before I pulled it out and reinstalled the new one. Where is the camshaft position sensor located? After I put it all back together and turned it over, the car still seems to crank the same as before. I canstill smell gas out the exhaust pretty strongly.

Probably your ICM. I just had the same problem with my 97 SS. Before you spend any money on any parts, I'd at least spend the money to have a mechanic hook up a computer to it and see what codes are popping up. Then check fuel pressure just to be sure.

the opti is the cam position sensor. That is why it has to be aligned right.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I was gone for the weekend. Anyways, I've double checked all my connections and disconnected my MSD box, put new plugs in, reran the plug wires and I tested the connector on the ICM. Everything seems good and still no spark. She'll turn over all day long and not fire at all and definetly have no problems with fuel starvation. Any other ideas? I really appreciate you guys trying to help me out, my cars been in the garage for the last month!

Sure did! Did more shooting today and it looks like it might be a bad Opti. I emailed the company I bought it from and waiting to see if they'll exchange me for another. Pretty pissed that I'll have to take it all apart again, but what else do you do. I've got power going to the opti but nothing coming out to the ICM.

I've got power to the ICM (new) but no signal out of pin B while turning the motor over. I've got power to the Opti and the coil but no spark. I've got power to each one of the injectors and have fuel pressure. I've checked the MAF and that seems to check out. I just can't get any spark at all. Do you think it can be the computer?

I have the same problem at least it seem to be. I have power from the coil but no firer from the spark plug. I replace the opti-spark, ICM and Coil. Remove the PCM and replaced it with another PCM still no spark at the plug. I will double check tonight the fuses. Is there anything else I should check?

computers rarely go bad, and the maf shouldn't have anything to do with controlling spark. You said you had an msd box didn't you?

Is there an aftermarket alarm system on the car? Have you checked that any theft deterrent relays and fuses are good?.. You really need to get a scanner so you can see if you have an rpm signal coming from anywhere.. The opti should be generating a signal each revolution, you should be able to back probe the cam sensor wires on the bottom of the opti/cover and read a
digital volt meter to see if a signal is being transmitted..

I have checked all my fuses and none are blown. I have the factory alarm still. I hooked-up a scanner and it threw no codes and now it says no-link, but my battery was a little undercharged at the time. I recharged the battery last night and need to check the scanner again. I have an Autometer tach and the stock tach still hooked-up and when I turn the engine over I'm still getting an RPM indication on both tachs.

Wow, weird man...from what it sounds like everything should be working... You obviously have an rpm signal..

Yeah, it's gonna end up being something simple I think, I just can't pin point it. It's driving me nuts. If the O2 sensors go bad, do think it would cause it to get a no spark condition?
