Default $900 spending limit

ok guys i just got in a minor fender bender and was paid by insurance 900 bucks. im just gunna pop the dent out and keep the money, so i was wondering. at the moment i have a CAI and UD pullies for both harmonic balancer and alternator. so knowing i have a 900 dollar spending limit i was wondering what i should do with it, i was thinking either buying a torque converter and having it installed, or drilled slotted rotors and some long tube headers. any other suggestions? id love to know. also i should be getting about $1500 more in about two weeks to spend on the car.

LTs and a stall are going to be good supporting mods for any H/C project.
(Translation: you're gonna have to do it anyway)

When considering H/C packages, understand that the cost of those two parts
is about half of the total cost of implementing that kind of setup.
Gaskets, valvetrain components, tuning and other supporting mods factor in.
(see page 4 of my cardomain page)

i would buy some NICe LT's and y-pipe, or maybe some egr lt setup with cats and whatnot. Dont skimp on parts though. Stay away from pacesetter.

yea i would love to do a head/cam swap in the future but right now i think i need all the supporting bolt-on's and traction/launching work done first. i plan on doing the torque converter and lt's and then new rear end and some slicks. then i will do a H/C package. you gotta be able to put the power down before you can go fast is how i see it, and that means for sure a new rear before H/C

i forgot the mention i already had the egr removed along with the air. so the egr bung is capped off on my exhaust manifolds right now, so long tubes would be just a bolt in and go application. and i was thinking of getting the pacesetter coater headers why would you say not too? there are like 5 babillion million guys on here that have pacesetters and never complain.

pacesetter has been the bargain basement in price and quality for years. i'm sure it hasn't changed.
pick up some used hooker coated long tubes and a stall. if you have $$ left over get a gear.
i wouldn't do rotors unless you're due for replacements, you won't enjoy them that much more than a $200 performance part.
also try and pick up some suspension stuff, subframes, lca's, etc. all cheap and easy to install.

Definitely get some LTs and a Y and either dump it (cheaper) or buy a catback. From headers to tailpipes I'm only spending about 580. Then do some suspension with whats left.

Your engine has to have proper breathing before doing anything like head-work or cam ... well, you could get away without, but it makes more sense to get the breathing right.

So long-tubes and y-pipe (and possibly hi-flow cats), plus a converter would be a nice addition, but it all depends what your plans are for the FUTURE for this car. If you can specify your goals, it makes recommendations much easier.

pacesetter is great i love them. the y pipe is pretty shitty, but the headers themselves are great

I can't speak for ckyconan2003, but all the research I've done says to stay away. Yes, they're great for the budget-minded, but if you want components that will last (and provide better performance), it usually means spending a bit more.

I continue to read where folks are having to replace Pacesetter sooner than they'd like to. And I've found it's true with most everything - you get what you pay for (a lot depends "what" you're buying).

i had the pacesetter LT's and y, granted they worked. But if i were to ever buy LT's again i would get better flowing and quality headers that arn't just like bottom dollar "they work" kinda parts. I always felt that by skimping on parts with my 96 ( sold ) caused me to not really feel to proud of it. Always wanted some hooker's or those new headers that will be forsale soon, dunno his name but theres a long topic about em, made from high quality stainless. Hookers and Kooks flow better and make more horses. Buy pacesetter if you dont plan on keeping the car more than a year or two.

Build the car so it will handle the next mod. Nothing sucks more than getting a project done and the stock components not being able to handle the extra abuse, and then the car sits until you have enough money to fix it. Start with bolt ons. As far as the exhaust goes, I feel Pacesetters are the best budget header on the market, and better than Hookers. I however dont like them because they rust and look like crap. You do get what you pay for when it comes to car parts....

I'd buy some AS&M headers with the $900 and a badass stall, gears and some suspension with the $1500..
