Default How to tell if a lifter is collapsed

I am thinking I ave a collapsed lifter, but don't know how to tell. When I pull the head, is it going to be obviuos, or will it be something I have to look for?

You do not need to remove the head to pull out a lifter.

You just have to remove the intake to access the lifters.

If you push on the Cup and it goes right down without resistance..it's collapsed. You should be able to tell when you pull your Rockers..the one with the collapsed Lifter will be loose.

Well that is the least of my problems now I think. I have three very bent pushrods and one of those is almost broke in half. The other two have about a 20 degree angle in them.

Not sure. I guess when put the rocker arm back on last weekend, I didn't torque it down enough when I back it off. I am pretty sure that is what happened cause the one that is broke in half was not seated in the rocker. I hope to god I didn't really hurt the motor.

Here is a link to a couple pics of them. enjoy.

I doubt bending pushrods would collapse a lifter. Especially if they are stock.

PS: Don't ever host pics on myspace and link to them.

ha.. i would think if thats all the damage... I would check out the lifters and/or upgrade them. and get new pushrods.
I think you're on the right track with the rockers not being on right... that would make some sense.

PS: Its the only place I have at the moment since they are to big to load here. And please read the entire post. I found the pushrods this afternoon while trying to check for a collapsed lifter.

I know for a fact that the rockers were not on right. The one tht is bent the worst was not even near the rocker when I pulled it out. I hope to have the head off tomorrow morning and then check the lifter to solve the original problem.

You don't need to pull the Heads to checks the Lifters..it's not a LSX..you need to just pull the Intake, and the Rockers.
Save yourself the trouble and the Money...

The drivers side head has to come off atleast. The headgasket looks like swiss cheese, unless that is something else down there.

I hope that when you say the head gasket looks like swiss cheese you are not referring to the pushrod holes in it

Uh, no. Take the pushrod holes and about triple their normal size and that is what the headgasket looks like. The first three pushrods were the ones that were bent so bad, and that is were the gasket is fucked up. the ones farther back look normal.

the pushrod hole in the head gasket don't matter as long as they aren't touching the new pushrods. the rockers are self-aligning stock and you'd have guideplates if they weren't. i wouldn't worry about the gasket

You have me confused on this. All the other pushrod holes look just fine, but the first three look shredded. If I can get a pic of the I will post it up. Where the forward most hole is supposed to be the hole in the gasket is almost half the size of the port where you can see it.
