I'm building a 383 lt1 for a guy and he is running ew and coil packs so the water pump gear and opti spark will not be used.
what choice of timing chains or belt drive setup can we go with.

Most coilpack systems require the opti as a cam position sensor. Which opti you will be using dictates timing chain choices.

Correct. If you swap over to the 95+ timing cover, you can use a vented opti and a double roller timing set if you want. However, you will also need to either swap out cams or install a longer dowel pin in the stock cam.

I would just use a fresh stock chain then, your choices are very limited by the unvented opti.

The stock chains while much hated are very strong and reliable pieces, taking the WP load off them can only serve to make them more reliable. There is an oversized crank gear available to tighten them some, I can pist the PN if you like.

The hatred of the stock chains is not based on any real problems.

I think Lunati makes one for the unvented setup.

I could use the part number for the stock chain and over sized crank gear if you got the time. The over sized gear not going to be to tight and cause problems will it? Thanks

Cloyes s505 for the gear, don't have the chain number offhand but a search at a parts store site will do the trick for that.

The stock chain is not exactly tight so putting tghe oversized gear on usually just makes it more normal, only ever heard one complaint about too tight and it was not from someone whom's opinion I particularly value.
