Default How to save an Opti

I heard this the other day, and it sounded like a good idea, and totally stupid at the same time.

With a vented opti, this guy was talking about drilling a small hole in one side, and running a hose with a filter on it into the cabin of the car to ensure clean dry air would be taken in. And on the other side, hooking a hose that runs into a vaccum port on the intake.

The theory is to pull dry air across or through the opti at all times, eliminating moisture, and saving the damn thing.

If this would work, you could completely seal it, run this air system, and stop the problem or destroying optis.

Sound like a good idea? Or completely Dumb?

-Rick

I think it would work. But I think the hose used would need to go from something that runs on vaccum. If it was run from an open hose I think it would act like it has a vaccum leak.

It would work, but the vented opti setup already works fairly decent. Compared to the non-vented.

I was thinking about doing the same thing since its a little to expensive for me to switch over after buying a new opti. 96Capricemgr mentioned to me in another thread that the new MSD cap/rotor kit has the vent built into it already.

With a stock unvented opti you can either do the whole conversion to convert to the GM vented opti, buy am entire MSD opti, or just buy a MSD cap and rotor. All 3 of these would convert your nonvented opti to a vented.

I've got some loom in bad shape and the valve covers got a few chips from the header install. Its starting to look nastier than it already did.

Gotta see how much loom its gonna take...

I'm gonna get started this weekend. Should I go red or black?
